KYMCO

KYMCO Super Dink GT 350 2025 driving test

The Super Dink is a scooter that holds special significance in our country, not only for having become a true benchmark, especially in its initial 125cc and 300cc versions, but also for its peculiar name, being known as Down Town outside of Spain. The fact that the Dink and Gran Dink models had already been marketed previously influenced the decision to call it Super Dink.

This model, under different names, sold over 100,000 units in the last decade and a half, with approximately 65,000 of them sold in Spain between 2009 and 2021, when sales were interrupted due to the lack of a Euro 5 version. It was replaced by the DTX, the "ADV" version, which remains on the market. Now, the Super Dink has been updated to meet Euro 5+ emissions standards, returning to the market with the aim of reviving its sales success.

In 2009, the year of its launch, the KYMCO Super Dink was in a market that still had a less favorable view of Chinese models compared to European or Japanese products. One of the models that helped change this general perception was precisely this one. Despite having to compete with a benchmark in the market, such as the Suzuki Burgman, and having a similar price, it managed to become the sales leader in 2010.

It was a cutting-edge model, proving to be the fastest in its class and extremely reliable. The high-displacement scooter that became a leader. The original 300 cc model was updated to 350 cc in 2015, facing fiercer competition, not only from new entrants, but also from already established brands.

In 2025, the Super Dink GT 350, whose technical specifications you can find at this link, bears little resemblance to the model we knew. Its mechanics are partially based on the DTX (Down Town X), which has a similar engine, although the body and chassis have significant differences. The engine has been adapted to the new requirements: a liquid-cooled 321 cc single-cylinder engine that develops 21 kW (28 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 30 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm — figures in line with most of its competitors.

KYMCO announces a range of 350 km with its 12.4-liter tank, thanks to a homologated consumption of 3.5 liters per 100 km. However, during this initial test, our consumption was around 3.9 l/100 km, reducing the range to approximately 315 km. The chassis features new dimensions and measurements, the wheels have a diameter one inch larger on each axle, and the total weight has been reduced by seven kilograms.

In addition to all this, some extra features have been added, such as the ESS emergency braking system, which activates the turn signals from 50 km/h to alert the vehicle behind about a sudden stop; there is an electronic key with a range of 3.5 m to prevent the motorcycle from remaining running if you forget to turn it off and drain the battery; and it also has a new floating digital panel with three lines of information, in addition to the speedometer and tachometer, and indicators for fuel level, consumption, voltage, temperature, clock and coolant temperature.

It has traction control and a two-channel Bosch ABS system. Another novelty is that all the lights are LED. Its storage capacity is well known, with a large two-level compartment under the seat, which easily accommodates two helmets, and two large glove compartments behind the front shield. These glove compartments do not have a lock, but they have two USB ports for charging. The motorcycle also features a medium-sized windshield and enough space for two occupants, with the rear seat equipped with retractable footrests and grab handles.

In keeping with current trends, the Super Dink has repositioned itself in the GT segment, living up to its name and offering improved dynamic performance. The weight reduction, combined with the new chassis design — with more centralized weight distribution and larger diameter wheels — provides stability and agility. It is possible to reach its top speed, with the speedometer exceeding 140 km/h, and to travel on uneven roads with minimal movement, limited only by the irregularities of the asphalt itself.

Stability is also maintained in curves, where ground clearance is ample and the motorcycle offers great ease of maneuvering. If there is any criticism to be made of the chassis, it is regarding braking power, which requires considerable pressure on the lever for an effective stop. A larger disc on the front wheel, for which there is now space, would probably solve this problem. The engine power is in line with the category; It's not exceptional, but it doesn't disappoint either, and the clutch operation has also been improved, both during starting and acceleration, with smooth and progressive engagement.

The riding position is quite relaxed thanks to the KYMCO's good size, with ample wheelbase and legroom. The seat is comfortable and wide, meaning that if you're not very tall, you'll end up having to rest your toes on the floor. Both the rider and passenger seats, which have grab handles, are quite spacious due to the seat length, providing a truly impressive amount of storage space underneath.

The storage capacity, including the under-seat compartment and the two front glove boxes, should be sufficient for most users. The size of the windscreen may be a little small, especially for those planning to use it frequently on road trips, but there will certainly be aftermarket options available soon.

The controls are easy to use, although the information displayed is limited. With the electronic key, you need to press a button to activate the system and then turn the knob, which controls all starting and unlocking functions. The large-capacity fuel tank provides good range, thus maintaining its GT credentials, combining comfort, luggage space, performance, and excellent handling.

The new KYMCO Super Dink GT 350 returns to the market aiming to revive its past success. To this end, it has undergone a complete redesign, updating its features, improving engine performance, and transforming it into a sportier model without sacrificing the traditional GT attributes in terms of comfort and cargo capacity. Priced at €4,750, it also stands out in this respect, mainly because it is comparable to competing models.
