Test 2025 Porsche 911 GTS

Maybe it's Porsche's fault. Maybe if it hadn't remained so faithful to the 911's original ethos of mechanical "purity" for so many decades, it would never have garnered such a loyal following for its brand-defining sports car. Perhaps without it—probably, even—there wouldn't be the histrionic wailing from certain corners of the superfanbase whenever the German automaker deigns to disrupt the currently accepted view of what the 911 Carrera is. 

Whether it's water-cooled engines or the widespread use of turbochargers, or now a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, the introduction of new technologies and features that bring the 911 closer to the traditional automotive philosophies of any given moment guarantees one thing: much discussion, debate, and pontification are bound to ensue. 

So we expected the same with the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid, the first electrified production 911. But really... Porsche nuts—and I admit there's more than one on the MotorTrend staff who fits the description in their personal time—are such a pedantic bunch, other new things found in the 2025 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid, like push-button start (no more physical key to turn) and a digital tachometer seem so polarizing, at least according to social media and other comments we've seen. And, ahem, by some of our own previously published comments. 

But perhaps a consequence of so many automakers funneling so many all-electric vehicles down the throats of the car-buying public in recent years is that the idea of ​​hybridization doesn't carry the same green-hot pariah brand as it did not so long ago for serious car/driving enthusiasts, Porsche fanatics or otherwise.
