Mitsubishi(Renault) Grandis 2025: Compact and "sensible" that combines space and technology
Mitsubishi considers the new Grandis a fundamental pillar for its growth in the coming years. Manuel Salvadores (General Manager of Mitsubishi in Spain) summarized this vision for us at the car's launch in Palma de Mallorca, where we could see that the new model offers everything many families need in a versatile vehicle: a compact exterior with a spacious interior, practicality, technology... And all this with an attractive design and an affordable price.
We will not deny that, from a technical (and especially aesthetic) point of view, this Grandis is essentially a Renault Symbioz, differing only in small design details (mainly at the front) and equipment. This means that it derives from the Mitsubishi ASX (the equivalent of the Renault Captur), which has been modified mainly from the B-pillar back to give it familiar attributes that will surprise some.
What's interesting about the design is that, despite the larger size, the proportions are balanced, partly because the sculpted silhouette (with its attractive creases) is complemented by large 18- or 19-inch wheels with a two-tone diamond finish. The front grille, with its vertical bars, has an unmistakable Mitsubishi family design and features chrome details, although black is the predominant detail, present on the bumpers, side skirts, and B and C pillars. All this is complemented by a color palette of five metallic colors (Steel Gray, Crystal White, Royal Blue, Aurora Red, and Onyx Black).

Square central screen...The interior is quite impressive. A 10-inch screen greets you behind the steering wheel (or 7 inches in the basic version), alongside another 10.4-inch screen in the center of the dashboard. This latter screen is square, making navigation much easier to view. Depending on the version (Motion, Kaiteki, or Kaiteki+; we tested the latter), the seats are heated and quite comfortable. Your gaze is also drawn upwards if the vehicle is equipped with the enormous electrochromic sunroof (which does not open), bathing the cabin in light and becoming transparent or translucent in some sections at the touch of a button next to the rearview mirror, eliminating the need for a sunshade.
A very interesting feature of this Grandis is that the rear seats slide forward or backward on 16 cm long rails, not in sections, but as a whole (the backrests fold down in a 1/3 to 2/3 split). Even in the most rearward position, a passenger 1.80 meters tall will not touch their knees to the backrests. But if your passengers are shorter, you can adjust the seats to the most forward position, which practically eliminates legroom, but would be suitable for transporting babies in their bassinets (who will be very close to their parents).

As for the trunk, in this position with the front seats, we reached an incredible 708 liters (64 in the hybrid), and if we consider the maximum space in the second row, the luggage space is 576 liters (492 in the hybrid), which is still phenomenal for a car of this size.
In terms of engine options, the Grandis offers mild hybrid and full hybrid solutions. The mild hybrid (MHEV) version combines a 1.3-liter turbo engine with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With its 140 hp, it can reach a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 seconds with the manual gearbox and 9.4 seconds with the automatic, achieving an official combined fuel consumption of 5.9 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions of 134 g/km.

The HEV hybrid version integrates a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 110 hp, a 50 hp main electric motor, a 20 hp secondary electric motor, and a 1.4 kWh battery, generating a combined power of 160 hp. The top speed remains the same, but the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is achieved in 9.1 seconds, and the official fuel consumption is reduced to 4.3 l/100 km, since the vehicle can operate in electric mode at speeds up to 70 km/h.
We tested both versions and the driving experience is enjoyable. The MacPherson-type front suspension and the torsion beam rear suspension with stabilizer bar absorb road imperfections quite comfortably, without harshness or uncomfortable body roll. The steering is light and provides a good feeling of precision, while the brakes are very easy to modulate throughout their range.
Regarding fuel consumption, we came very close to the official figures for both versions (combining secondary roads with driving in various cities), which showed us that the hybrid version actually has a significant advantage in terms of fuel efficiency. We obtained these values by varying the driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport and Personal), which alter the throttle response, steering sensitivity and hybrid system management, although without major differences between them.
Regarding the equipment, we mentioned the screens, but not the fact that Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store are natively integrated into the Kaiteki+ version, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work wirelessly. Wireless charging is available on all three versions, as are four USB-C ports, and the audio system in the top-of-the-line version is a 410W Harman Kardon with five adaptive listening modes, as well as algorithms that adjust the sound based on speed and the occupant's seat position.

In terms of safety, the vehicle features 20 advanced driver assistance systems, including, in the Kaiteki+ version, the MI-PILOT semi-autonomous driving system with adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, lane centering assistant, and frontal collision mitigation. Airbags protect the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers, while visibility systems include blind spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360° panoramic view monitor.
Prices for the new Mitsubishi Grandis start at €26,100 for the Motion version (with a €1,200 discount and a €2,500 discount for financing through Promofinance) with a mild hybrid engine, and reach €37,150 (also with discounts and financing) for the Kaiteki and Kaiteki+ hybrid versions. However, these prices, based on the engine and version, cannot be increased, as the equipment packages are fixed and there are no optional extras available. All models include a 5-year/100,000 km factory warranty, extendable to 8 years/160,000 km with roadside assistance.
