We drove the Kia EV4: a model that introduces Kia to the compact segment
Before the summer, we had the opportunity to briefly drive the new EV4 Fastback, although Kia informed us that most sales would be concentrated in the Hatchback body style, that is, the five-door model. This model not only breaks with the SUV/Crossover trend that the Korean company had started with its family of electric vehicles, but also becomes, along with the EV3, the cornerstone of the brand's new electric era.
Although in the case of this EV4, it could be said to be even more important, as it is the first zero-emission model designed for Europe and manufactured in the EU, more specifically at the Slovakian plant in Zilina (the Fastback, in turn, comes from Korea). One design, two silhouettes... The aesthetic differences between these two silhouettes are determined by the rear end, which is more squared off in the five-door and has a coupe-like slope that lengthens the rear overhang in the Fastback, offering a striking design that impacts its interior capacity. Unsurprisingly, the dimensions vary: 4.43 meters and 4.73 meters; while the trunk also increases in the sedan, reaching 490 liters compared to the 435 liters of its sibling, positioning it as one of the absolute leaders.

The rear seats are roomier in the EV4 Hatchback due to the lack of a sloping roofline, but both stand out for their generous kneeroom, thanks to the 2.82-meter wheelbase. Only the excessively bent knee position, due to the raised floor caused by the battery position, can be a bit uncomfortable. The driving position is typical of Kia's latest models, featuring sustainable and recycled materials, plenty of storage space, and very comfortable seats with power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and a relaxation function with near-full recline.

The screen is combined with a 5.5-inch climate control display and a 12.3-inch digital display with multiple views. A head-up display projected onto the windshield completes the package. Although the display is digital, physical buttons remain on the center armrest, trim, and steering wheel.

The Kia EV4 comes with a 204-hp engine and two battery capacities. The most popular will be the 81.3 kWh Long Range, with which the EV4 Hatchback is certified for a range of 625 km, surpassing the VW ID. 3, the Cupra Born, and the Opel Astra Electric. The EV4 Fastback, thanks to its Cd 0.24 drag coefficient, reaches a range of 633 km, competing with rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 and the BYD Sedan.
The Standard version offers 51.3 kWh and 440 km of range in the five-door. Both come standard with V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality and are V2H and V2G ready.

The Kia EV4 Hatchback Long Range demonstrates excellent sound insulation, great stability, and precision thanks to its low center of gravity. It offers Eco, Normal, Sport, Custom, and Snow modes, as well as three levels of hold and the i-Pedal system for one-pedal driving. Fuel consumption was approximately 16 kWh/100 km, with peaks of up to 14 kWh/100 km.

The Kia EV4 Hatchback starts at €38,695 and the Fastback at €42,745. With discounts and subsidies, the price drops to €26,400 for the five-door and €30,450 for the sedan. A truly unbeatable price for one of Kia's key electrification models, along with the EV3.
