Cybertrucks to patrol Mexican tourist sites during World Cup

Police in the Mexican state of Jalisco will receive 678 new patrol vehicles, including Tesla's electric pickup truck Cybertruck.

The World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is just over a year away, and the authorities in the Mexican state of Jalisco are gearing up for the huge sporting event. They recently added three electric pickup trucks, Tesla's Cybertrucks, to their fleet to patrol tourist sites during the tournament.

According to Mundoquatrorodas, one of the three Cybertrucks was seen on the streets of a local town accompanied by two Ford F-Series pickup trucks. Mayor Pablo Lemus Navarro is determined to ensure security during the tournament is at the highest level, but the cost has some locals worried.

The Cybertruck is wrapped in matte black foil and wears the necessary police livery, equipped with police lights built into the front and rear bumpers, as well as sills. There are no photos of the interior yet, but it is likely modified and equipped with additional equipment needed for patrolling the streets.

These Cybertrucks are just a small part of a much larger fleet of new police vehicles. Mexico is not the only country to introduce the Cybertruck into its police fleet. Earlier this year, Las Vegas authorities announced that they would receive ten Cybertrucks from an anonymous donor. Some of them will serve SWAT teams, while others will patrol the streets.

The Cybertruck seen in the images is seen wrapped in a matte black shade with all the regular police livery in place. Red and blue flashing lights have been seamlessly integrated into the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side skirts. While the local police haven’t shared any images of the Cybertruck’s interior, it’s likely been outfitted with the essential equipment required for street patrols and criminal enforcement. These Cybertrucks represent only a small portion of a much larger fleet of new vehicles being rolled out by the state.

In a video released by local news media outlet Telediario Guadalajara on YouTube, Governor Navarro is seen speaking about big plans to improve security in the region ahead of the soccer World Cup. He said that there was also a need to focus heavily on improving the perception of security, and that they would be delivering 678 patrol vehicles for the State Police, State Highway Police, and State Police, including some vehicles referred to as “Black Mambas,” which he described as a type of tank.

Mexico isn’t the only country incorporating the Cybertruck into its law enforcement fleet. Earlier this year, Las Vegas revealed it would be receiving 10 Cybertrucks, donated by an anonymous benefactor. Some are set to be used by SWAT teams, while others will handle regular street patrols. It’s possible that more cities may soon adopt a similar approach.

The 2026 Football World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by Mexico along with USA and Canada that will feature as many as 48 teams. The mega event will be held between June 11 to July 19 across 16 host cities.
