2025 Audi A6 Sedan: A Technological, Aerodynamic Sedan...and with Diesel Engines

Just a few days ago, we were able to drive the first new-generation Audi A6 combustion engine, in this case with the Avant station wagon body (also featured on the electric A6 e-tron), and now it's time for its more traditional silhouette. The Audi A6 Sedan will be the final addition to a family that will have three body styles divided between its two "natures": the sedan exclusively for combustion engines, the Sportback exclusively for electric vehicles, and the station wagon shared by both models.

We had the chance to see it in person a few days ago in Porto, and the first thing that came to mind was that Audi has followed the same recipe for the A6 as for the A5. That is, to create a sedan with a certain coupé feel to limit the damage of losing the sportback body. But, as with its little brother, they haven't succeeded. Because the 2025 A6 sedan is just that, a traditional sedan... and it's a good thing because this type of bodywork should remain relevant in a segment like this. We're practically talking about a luxury sedan, with its 4.99 meters in length (six centimeters more than the previous model) and a 492-liter trunk (slightly less than the Avant's 503 liters for the same length).

Of course, although traditional...its new bodywork doesn't fall short in terms of aerodynamic capabilities compared to the electric sedan (the pinnacle) or the Avant. The A6 sedan boasts the lowest drag coefficient of any combustion Audi at 0.23 (the electric car, more in need of perfection in this regard, was limited to 0.21).

Like its Avant sibling, the A6 sedan will feature standard Matrix LED headlights with seven light signatures to customize their look, which can be complemented by the same number of signatures for the taillights if the optional OLED lamps are fitted. 20- or 21-inch wheels complete the aesthetic.

Electrified and plug-in hybrid engines...Mechanically, it's similar to what we already saw in the Avant, from the new platform (the PPC, which will be extended to many premium Volkswagen Group models with combustion engines) to the powertrain range.

El A6 sedán también adopta el interior de nueva generación de la marca de Ingolstadt.

Inside, we find two standard screens integrated into a panoramic monitor with an 11.9-inch digital clock and the main 14.5-inch screen (with integrated ChatGPT), with the option of installing a third 10.9-inch screen for the passenger.

It will initially arrive in Spain with the MHEV Plus diesel engine, a combination of a 204-horsepower four-cylinder TDI and a mild hybrid system with sufficient capacity to propel the car in electric mode, albeit on a very limited basis. Its main function will be to support the diesel engine to reduce fuel consumption (which the spec sheet states is between 4.8 and 5.6 liters on average).

As we saw with the Audi A6 Avant, it can be ordered with three types of suspension (standard, sport, and adaptive pneumatic), two drive systems (front-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive), and can be fitted with interesting dynamic elements such as rear-axle steering.

We'll have to wait until July of this year to see the first units in Spain, which will always be with diesel engines. Although four- and six-cylinder gasoline engines (also partially electrified) will be available in other markets, future plug-in hybrids are more likely to complete the range in our country, with two power levels (272 and 367 hp) and a long electric range (always more than 100 km). In the meantime, the starting price of the A6 sedan will be €63,900.
