Customers blast BMW M3 Electric on social media
The Neue Klasse, the platform that will serve as the basis for the next BMW models, starting with the next iX3 and 3 Series, with emphasis on the first M3 Electric, has an aesthetic that has shocked since the moment it was presented at the Paris Motor Show. The German manufacturer received negative reactions when it showed the SUV and sedan at the French event, models based on the new platform, which also debuts the new stylistic language, the fruit of the pen of designer Adrian van Hooydonk.
But the release of the first images of the next electric M3, via social media, generated a series of criticisms never before seen in models from the brand. At best, perhaps at the level of the BMW XM.
It's not easy to decide whether what displeases potential customers most is the front of the M3, its side area or the rear panel. But if we had to bet, we would put our chips on the back of the sporting future. At least, judging by the posts from fans of the German brand, in response to the first images of the M3 EV, albeit camouflaged, revealed to create interest in the model, with this promotion of the M3 (scheduled for 2026/2027) being intended to promote the 3 Series saloon (which will appear in 2026, in petrol and electric versions), whose lines did not attract much attention.
Among the comments that can be read on Instagram, the network that BMW chose to promote the sports car, it is possible to find statements such as “I already canceled mine”, “whatthefuck are those taillights?”, “what is this?” or “Holy God, Kia is better than BMW.” Between disbelief and a critical tone, the comments also include phrases such as “I pay a billion pounds for them not to produce this”, “I'll pass”, “Audi, here I come”, “April Fools was 8 days ago”, WTF is this rear view?”, “it's the ugliest rear I've ever seen” and “that's the ugliest car I've ever seen in my life. Goodbye BMW”.
However, although in a smaller percentage, there are also fans who like the lines of the future electric sports car, which is not surprising, since no company sees one of its products being attacked on the networks without immediately launching a spin strategy to control the damage, without us knowing if this is (really) the situation of the German brand.
If the aesthetics of the new M3 EV are debatable and not at all consensual, its power level is also not up to expectations, at least among the most demanding drivers. BMW announced, when it presented the Neue Klasse platform, that it could mount two engines (one per axle), three (two at the rear) or four engines (one for each wheel), with powers that together could reach the mythical 1 MW, that is, 1360 hp.
However, the electric M3 — which should be called the iM3 — should not announce more than 710 hp, an impressive power output, but which still places it close to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N (650 hp), but far from the best Tesla and Porsche.
