New Mercedes GLC 2026 arrives electrified
This year, the new Mercedes-Benz CLA will kick off a new offensive by the German brand, which will be followed, in 2025, by the unveiling of a new 100% electric version of the GLC.
Like the CLA, the new German SUV will also be based on an 800 V electric architecture, but it will be distinguished by the platform used: the 100% electric GLC will be the first to benefit from the new MB.EA. In other words, it will not share the platform with the combustion-powered GLC.
The 100% electric GLC will indirectly replace the EQC, the first in Mercedes-Benz's electric offensive launched in 2018, and now the brand has released the first images of the new model, undergoing dynamic winter testing — carried out in the Arjeplog region of Sweden.
The model's very dynamic camouflage(image below) is effective in hiding the details, but allows you to see the silhouette. Predictably, it does not differ much from that of the combustion-powered GLC. The German brand has already stated that it wants to converge the design of its combustion and electric models.

The NMC (nickel, manganese and cobalt) lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 94.5 kWh, but Mercedes highlights its higher energy density (Wh/kg). This was achieved by enriching the anode cells with silicon oxide. The result of the increased density is a reduction in the size of the battery, as well as its weight, while maintaining the desired capacity.
The electric GLC's range should be around 650 km and to increase efficiency and reduce consumption, Mercedes mentions an innovative solution for energy recovery, as well as a new generation of heat pump. In the case of the energy recovery system, called One Box, the brake pedal is decoupled from the physical braking system. When you press the brake pedal, computers will calculate how much of the braking force will be generated by energy recovery or by using the brake discs. This solution, says Mercedes, will enable significant efficiency gains.
As for the powertrain, there will be variants with one engine (rear-wheel drive) and two engines (all-wheel drive or 4MATIC in Mercedes terms). The most powerful version should have 490 hp.
The mid-size SUV from Mercedes-Benz has always been one of its most important models. When it was launched almost a decade ago, demand for it was so high that the brand was forced to build new production lines. At one time, the waiting time was over a year.
After that, the pace may have slowed down a little, but the Mercedes-Benz GLC has never stopped being one of the brand's best-selling models, year after year.
The next chapter for the model will take place in September at the Munich Motor Show, where it will be publicly unveiled. The all-electric Mercedes-Benz GLC will be produced in Bremen (Germany) and Beijing (China).
But as we live in a world under the threat of additional import tariffs, Mercedes-Benz is maintaining the possibility of some of the production also taking place in the US, at its plant in Tuscaloosa.
