Adamastor Furia: the super sports car from Portugal with a 3.5L V6 supercharged engine from Ford
Designing and producing cars is far from being an easy task, but while this is true for small and affordable vehicles, the situation changes when we talk about super sports cars, models with only two seats and with powers reaching 700 hp. To succeed in this exclusive segment, you need great knowledge in the field of aerodynamics, a technological capacity capable of designing a light and rigid chassis, as well as efficient suspensions and an engine that provides plenty of power, without being excessively large or heavy. And, suddenly, a Portuguese company appeared, Adamastor, which proposes to sell the Furia, a model that intends to compete with the best products from Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini.
Created by a group of enthusiasts from the North, Adamastor is a young company with no history yet, but with the technology to build a chassis in carbon fiber and a body in the same material. This allows the Furia to announce only 1100 kg of weight for the Race version, exclusive for the track, with a weight similar to the 1450 kg of the Ford GT (which uses the same mechanics and type of chassis) expected for the Road version, to be homologated for circulate on the road.
In addition to having mastered the weight and rigidity elements of the chassis, Adamastor is equally confident in the work carried out in terms of aerodynamics, announcing that it has developed the project using the numerical analysis of Computational Fluid Dynamics, for both the Road and Race versions. All that remains is to wait for confirmation of efficiency in the wind tunnel or directly on the track.
To power the Furia, Adamastor turned to Ford, from whom it acquired the 3.5 supercharged V6, the same one that the North American giant mounts on the Ford GT — successor to the mythical GT 40 — where it advertises 655 hp and 750 Nm of torque, which allows it to announce 347 km/h. Once installed in the Furia, this 3.5 V6 Turbo promises a value of close to 650 hp, which according to the manufacturer will guarantee a maximum speed of over 300 km/h and the ability to exceed 100 km/h after just 3. 5 seconds.
Bold and extremely aggressive, the Furia looks more like a competition model than a super sports car for the road, in line with models like the Aston Martin Valkyrie or the Mercedes-AMG One. Even in terms of price, the Adamastor aims for a value of 1. 6 million euros, before taxes, which puts it too close to the British and German hypersports cars (as they have more than 1000 hp), offered for 2.5 and 2.75 million (before taxes), respectively. And to the base value of the Adamastor, potential customers have to add taxes, with the approximately 400g of CO2/km that the engine should announce raising this price considerably. Then, we still have to add VAT, which will push the sales price to the public above 2 million.
With an engine with “only” 650 hp, the Furia Road seems to be closer to the Ferrari and Lamborghini, even behind the 720 hp of the F8 or the 770 hp of the Aventador (only considering non-electrified engines), with an advantage for the Italian models. in terms of mechanical nobility, as the Ferrari F8 uses a twin-turbo V8 and the Lamborghini has an atmospheric V12. However, one and the other prove to be faster and faster, the first claiming 340 km/h and 2.9 seconds from 0-100 km/h and the second 350 km/h and 2.8 seconds. And both transalpine super sports cars are sold for prices below 500 thousand euros.
Furia production will begin in 2025, the year in which Adamastor plans to deliver the first two units of the road model and many more of the track version. Then, already at cruising speed, the new manufacturer aims for a manufacturing rate of 25 units per year.
