Audi RS6 at 272 km/h was caught by a French police Alpine A110
Just as in Italy the authorities favor integrating models from Transalpine manufacturers into their fleets or, in Germany, the police forces move mainly with vehicles from German manufacturers, in France, the gendarmerie has a long-standing relationship with the Renault Group. Especially when it comes to ensuring that, if a high-speed chase becomes necessary, neither the Rapid Intervention Brigade is left behind nor the offender left laughing. That's what happened at the beginning of this month, thanks to the performance of one of the 26 Alpine A110s that, in 2022, passed into the hands of the French authorities, replacing the Renault Mégane RS. The interesting thing is that the pursuit that made people talk (in the French press and social media) was aimed at stopping a van. Not just any van, but one that is as familiar as it is sporty. The problem is that she was caught traveling on a motorway at 272 km/h!
A few days before the reveal of the RS6 Avant GT 2024, Audi's new family “plane”, an older example of this lineage was “flashed” by a radar traveling at no more, no less than 142 km/h above what is allowed. by law. In other words, more than double the 130 km/h set as the limit for French expressways.
The offense occurred in the Biermont region and, by luck or bad luck (it will depend on your perspective), the gendarmerie was ready and properly prepared to pursue the most daring, aboard the Alpine coupé, a light and agile sports car that is limited to 250 km/h maximum speed. Hence, when the alarms sounded that a driver was “flying” on the asphalt at 272 km/h, the French guard released the 252 hp of the A110, a model that goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds .
It only took a few kilometers in pursuit of the “accelera” for the gendarmerie to be able to intercept the offender who, taking advantage of the ample space on board the RSE Avant, was accompanied by two other passengers. The journey of the three continued, but with a destination that would eventually not be in the trio's plans: they were arrested and the driver risked being disqualified from driving for three years. Immediately, he had to deposit €1500 and hand over his driving license. The vehicle was also confiscated. It will be up to the judge, in a court hearing to be held in April, to determine how much it is worth, in terms of penalty, to put the lives of other public road users at risk.
