AUTONEWS

The robot developed by Volkswagen and Bosch that recharges the battery of an electric car without the driver having to get his hands dirty

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), in Las Vegas, the most important electronic novelty show in the world, the Volkswagen Group and Bosch presented robot charging, a system with a robotic arm that connects the charging network to the electric vehicle, without that the driver has to get his hands dirty or even interfere in the process. This solution is not new, as not only has Tesla already created a similar system, but Volkswagen had already come up with a prototype in 2019 (as you can read below) and Bosch with its version of the same solution, in 2021. Now joined hands, to be stronger together.

During CES, Bosch and Cariad, Volkswagen's software division, demonstrated their system, which combines automatic and autonomous parking with a device that opens the charging socket cover and activates the robotic arm that connects the vehicle to the network. Recharging in this way is more convenient for most drivers, but it can be particularly interesting for drivers with mobility limitations.

According to the two German companies, the objective is to provide a system in which the driver enters the parking lot and leaves the vehicle. It will then go to a location where the robotic arm is waiting to recharge the battery. Once the operation is complete, the vehicle moves to a free parking space. Below you can see the version presented by Bosch in 2021.
