Johann Zarco debuts his MotoGP record in the cruelest ending for Jorge Martín
The Frenchman Johann Zarco has finally achieved, at 33 years old, his first victory in the premier category by winning the Australian Grand Prix race, held exceptionally on a Saturday due to the change in weekend schedules.
The Frenchman won in a truly crazy finale brought about by the drastic fall of Jorge Martín's tire, who led until the penultimate lap to finish fifth and, above all, give up nine more points to the Italian Pecco Bagnaia, who finished second. with his compatriot Fabio Di Giannantonio making his debut in the box to complete a new Ducati triplet.
Jorge Martín held off Brad Binder well to retain the lead and try to make the most of his soft rear rubber at the start, with Pecco Bagnaia maintaining third position ahead of Jack Miller and Fabio Di Giannantonio, with Marc Márquez - also on soft rubber - placing sixth after passing Aleix Espargaró and Johann Zarco.
Di Giannantonio put the bike into Miller on the second lap and Márquez took advantage of the gap to pass the Australian. 'Diggia' was unleashed and placed third, passing Bagnaia, who had already completely lost Binder's wake, who was trying to follow Martín's devilish pace.
Martín began to let go of Binder, and Di Giannantonio did the same with Bagnaia, behind whose back Zarco and Márquez exchanged positions until the Frenchman managed to consolidate fifth position and the race entered a calmer phase.
