AUTONEWS

An ultra-rare Gunther Werks 400R is under the hammer, with a price tag that will exceed $1 million

In the summer of 2017, Gunther Werks introduced itself to us by presenting the 400R, a 911 with a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter 400 hp engine. The American company imitates the work of Singer Vehicle Design, only that the former deals with the 993 of the 90s, while the latter does “golden jobs” offering restomod 911s of the 70s.

Production of the 400R began in the summer of 2018 at the Gunther Werks plant in Southern California, and the first cars were delivered to their lucky owners in the third quarter of the year. The American company manufactured only 25 400R, with the price exceeding 500,000 euros.

The interior is spared alcantara and leather, the rear seats “welcome” to the delight of a carbon fiber panel, while those of the driver-passenger are also made of the same material. Not even half a roll cage is missing, in GT2 RS standards.

The first car delivered to a Gunther Werks customer is up for sale via online auction from Bring a Trailer, and at the time of writing the highest bid stands at $1 million, but with 7 days left in the auction, the the price will increase significantly.

The iconic 993 was fitted with a 270bhp 3.6-litre boxer, which means the 400R is above its RS counterpart and on par with the Turbo. In addition to the mechanical upgrade, Gunther Werks inflates the 993 with a widebody kit to bring it closer to the GT2, wraps the bumpers, fenders and roof in carbon fiber, lowers the body thanks to a set of KW Clubsport suspension and mounts Pirelli P-Zero Rosso size 315/30/R18 on the rear wheels.
