Ioniq 5 N: Ace of drift
After offering several versions of the electric Ioniq 5, from the more affordable ones with just one engine and a smaller battery capacity, to the more powerful ones with two engines and a more generous battery, Hyundai promised that its Ioniq 5 N would be a sports car capable of impress the most demanding drivers. And Keiichi Tsuchiya, a veteran known as the king of drift in Japan, decided to see how up to par the new South Korean sports car was.
With 650 hp (with the N Grin Boost function, which is available for 10 seconds at a time, ensuring 41 of these horses), as a result of mounting an engine with 238 hp at the front and 412 hp at the rear, the Ioniq 5 N is equipped with a battery with a gross capacity of 84 kWh, which can recharge at 350 kW due to its 800V electrical system, which allows it to go from 0% to 80% in just 18 minutes. But the data that matters for this tram, which can be considered an SUV or crossover, with a weight of 2200 kg, is that it reaches 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, and then only stops gaining speed when it reaches 260 km/h.
To make it more fun and efficient to drive, Hyundai equipped the sports tram with the N Launch Control function and several driving modes, among which we highlight Drag (for starts in the best conditions) and Track (optimizing behavior on the track ). The system always puts more power behind, to make the front more efficient in curves, to which the four steering wheels also contribute, but the distribution of power between the two axles has nine possible adjustments, with the N Drift Optimize mode using the one that puts more power at the rear, where there is a rear differential equipped with an electronic self-locking system, all to guarantee the desired “crossings”. For less spectacular and more efficient track use, the Ioniq 5 N has the N Race mode, which in turn is divided into Sprint and Endurance, depending on whether you want to complete one lap within the limits, or several.
So that enjoyment does not take place in an environment characterized by silence, the manufacturer developed N Active Sound, a system with 10 interior speakers and two exterior speakers that reproduce the roar of various types of engines, to reinforce the emotion and sensations on board.
