DESIGNER SABINE MARCELIS REINVENTA O RENAULT TWINGO

World-renowned designer makes the iconic Twingo futuristic

On the 30th anniversary of the iconic Twingo, Renault turned to internationally renowned contemporary artist and designer Sabine Marcelis to reimagine this iconic model and reveal an artistic interpretation of the Twingo, launched in 1993.

Sabine Marcelis was the most recent winner of the ELLE DÉCO International Designer of the Year Award, which allowed her to establish herself among the most influential designers in the world. His impressive art installations have captivated international audiences, from art and design enthusiasts at the Art Basel fair to visitors to countless museums around the world.

After French designers Mathieu Lehanneur, who paid homage to the 4L on the model's 60th anniversary with Suite N° 4, and Pierre Gonalons, who created the R5 Diamant concept for the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5, Renault entrusted the designer with Sabine Marcelis on a mission to revisit the iconic Twingo. The Dutch designer is known for her work with pure and elegant shapes, her great affinity with light and her mastery of technologies that go beyond the limits of possibilities, favoring a better use of materials.

The project began with a detailed exploration of the Twingo, in order to recall its most peculiar features, such as the emblematic minivan silhouette, the characteristic headlights, the modular interior with an incredible sense of space and light. After that, meticulous work was done on transparencies and interaction between colors and materials. The result is surprising: a Twingo like no other, yet faithful to the very essence of the iconic model, 30 years after its creation.

“The partnership with Renault started with an invitation to rethink the Twingo for the model's 30th anniversary. It was an amazing opportunity and new ground for exploration for me, as I had never designed a car before. Working on such an iconic and world-renowned car was a real challenge, especially given the scale of the project. It was an opportunity to create something truly innovative and memorable,” commented Sabine Marcelis.

This partnership between Renault and Sabine Marcelis is a true testament to the values of artistic and creative freedom. Renault's commitment to electric mobility - the concept features a retrofit kit - and Sabine Marcelis' innovative approach to materials and design create a perfect synergy to celebrate the anniversary of this iconic Twingo by unveiling the car from an angle never seen before. Unique and unexpected, the concept is a meeting between the emblematic Twingo and the designer's artistic vision, offering a refined reinterpretation of the vehicle.
