LEXUS
Introducing the All-New 2024 Lexus GX
Lexus has revealed the new generation of the GX SUV. The model combines off-road abilities with the features and comfort specific to a Lexus model.
Lexus presented the new GX to the public, an important release for the Japanese manufacturer. The model is getting a completely new generation after more than a decade, and Lexus seems to have nailed it, at least in terms of design.
The car clearly stands out with its straight, almost retro lines that recall the Land Cruiser models of the past. The front end is massive and incorporates both the signature Lexus grille and modern headlights with LED technology, and at the bottom there is a protective shield.
The profile is robust, almost square, like a real off-roader, with plastic protections and rectangular wheel arches. They house special 18-inch wheels wrapped in high-tread off-road tires. At the back, the design remains fairly simple. There’s a full-length light bar that sits below a large rear window that can be opened independently of the standard power tailgate.
A new interior design...The new Lexus GX features the brand’s latest approach to interior design, notably borrowing elements from other models launched recently. The central air vents are placed much lower in the dashboard to accommodate a large 14-inch screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity. Fortunately, there are still physical controls for climate control and volume, but there are also dedicated buttons for the vehicle’s off-road functions located next to the gear selector. The new SUV has up to 6 seats, being a real vehicle with three rows of seats.
The Lexus GX gets a new supercharged V6 engine...The new model gets a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 that produces 354 hp and 650 Nm of torque. There is only one engine at launch, but Lexus promises that a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.4-liter engine will be introduced in the near future.
The V6 engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the car comes standard with permanent all-wheel drive, as it always has. There’s also a Torsen limited-slip center differential. In addition, an improved transfer case means that switching between 4H and 4L is now even quicker.
The new Lexus GX will go on sale in early 2024, with assembly taking place at the Tahara plant in Japan. We expect pricing to be announced as we get closer to commercial debut.
