QHM Aero: the new electrified truck certified for 44 tons with a range of 700 kilometers
The German company Quantron recently presented a very special tractor unit. The new product is called QHM Aero and actually uses the cabin and chassis of the new generation MAN TGX. However, in order to make it look like a completely new model, the experts slightly “disguised” it, the model received a practically completely new design and the original MAN DNA can only be recognized in traces.
The certified 44-tonne tractor unit promises operators no less than the fact that it can travel up to 700 kilometers with a single charge. Compared to the fact that it is a fuel cell vehicle, this is quite a lot. What’s more, it can do all this with a normal semi-trailer, in Hungary this value, which is considered very attractive among electric vehicles, was not obtained on some test track.
The vehicle was equipped with 2 fuel cells, each with a power of 120 kW, supplied by Canadian Ballard Power. The tractor-trailer, specially developed to meet the needs of long-distance freight transport, can carry 54 kilograms of hydrogen in tanks placed between the front and rear axles. It is interesting that the vehicle can even be equipped with a range extender, in which case at least 116 kilograms of hydrogen can be refueled. In this way, you can travel up to 1,500 kilometers on a single charge. For the time being, these copies are only given to Norwegian operators.
Quantron wants to try its luck with its hydrogen cell drivetrain not only on the European market. A tractor trailer with a beak for the North American market is planned to be introduced soon. And so it may also happen that the spread of hydrogen-powered saddles begins in long-distance freight transport. Quantron wants to play a significant role not only in long-distance freight transport, as the company also has hydrogen-powered long-distance buses, garbage trucks, and small goods carriers.
