2023 Ford Bronco Everglades frente 3-4

Bronco Everglades 2023 edition

To say that the Ford Bronco has been a huge success is nothing short of the truth, and perhaps even a bit of an understatement. It's the first direct competitor to Jeep's dominance in the off-road market, and consumers are shelling out their cash for every trim level.

The Bronco has taken its place alongside the Wrangler, but it also mixes it with luxury status symbols like the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen and Land Rover Defender. Ford is smartly watching this and offers the Bronco in a variety of special editions, like the Everglades model.

Overview...The Bronco Everglades edition is based on the robust Black Diamond finish. This trim is for the serious off-road enthusiast and features rubber floors with drain plugs for easy washing, skid plates to protect the underside, and a tough modular front bumper.

The Black Diamond is built on the assumption that you will be adding a bunch of aftermarket off-road goodies to your vehicle. The Everglades edition goes one step further and anticipates the most common add-ons and puts them in for you. Assuming you like the parts Ford chose, the consumer advantage is that all of these now come with a factory warranty.

Exterior...The Bronco Everglades is only available as a four-door model, and the special edition is easy to spot. Exterior features unique to the Everglades model include a topographical map of the Everglades on the fender behind the front wheel arches, a snorkel system to increase water passing capacity, a large Warn winch mounted on the modular front fender, and a big 35-inch squeak 70- standard tires on 17-inch wheels. It's remarkable to see so many sidewalls these days, even in an off-road vehicle.

Plus, the Everglades edition comes in some pretty colors, including the dramatic Eruption Green we like on the test vehicle.

One feature I must especially praise is the cargo floor behind the rear seats. This has an extra sliding shelf that will be a perfect place to pack lunch, set up your hiking gear, or any other purpose. One more thing to look out for is a pre-installed set of auxiliary switches for any extra lighting or other electrical needs. Ford anticipated the real needs of off-roaders and packed it all into this vehicle.

The Everglades edition comes standard with Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, rated at 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the Bronco's advanced four-wheel drive system, with an automatic mode that simulates four-wheel drive behavior.

You can leave the system in 4A auto mode all the time, but you'll get better fuel economy in 2H rear-wheel drive mode. Of course, the traditional part-time 4WD 4H and 4L modes are also available. The Everglades edition has an ultra-low 67.8:1 tracking ratio for true off-road use. Another thing to mention is the electronic locking differentials that you can control by pressing one of the many switches in the cab.

Safety and Technology...The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rates the four-door Bronco with an overall crash test rating of four stars (out of five), but only three stars for rollovers. Probably because of the removable ceiling panels. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Bronco generally good marks and full credit for the forward collision mitigation system.

Aside from the frontal collision system, the Bronco doesn't have much advanced driver assistance. Realistically, this isn't the kind of family/commuter vehicle where these features are a huge selling point. However, the Bronco Everglades comes with a great rearview camera for backup and backup radar that warns you when you're approaching an obstacle you can't see.

Interior...The interior of the Bronco Everglades is all about functionality. Not only are the floor mats rubber, covering a plastic floor with drains, but the seats are upholstered in an extra-tough marine vinyl. They're still warmed up, which is really nice.

The rearview camera looks so good because the Everglades edition has a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by Ford's SYNC4 operating system with satellite radio included. The Sync4 system supports Over-the-Air updates when needed.

Driving impressions... There's no denying that the four-door Bronco mounted on 35s is a big, tall vehicle. If you're looking for a hot rod, this isn't it. The 300hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers the goods, but you're still looking at an 8-second 0-60 time. But seriously, who cares? This rig is all about riding the toughest mountain trails at low range with the diffs locked.

It will handle everything you need in this type of performance. But other than that, it's a nice piece of equipment to drive on the road. Large tires do not lead to displacements or excessive noise - noting that "excessive" in this case takes into account the removable plastic roof panels. Overall, we were impressed with the Bronco's on-road and off-road handling and handling.

The Bronco Everglades package is only available to customers who already have an existing reservation. You won't find this one in the configurator on the Ford website. You will have to ask. As we mentioned, the Everglades is based on the Black Diamond trim, which starts at $44,630 before any add-ons or fees, and includes the $6,840 Sasquatch package of off-road features, plus a bunch of other options.

So if you configure a Black Diamond to approximate the Everglades edition, it will cost you $53,890, including the $1,795 destination fee. The Everglades is $56,240. If you want outright off-road gear with a factory warranty, then we'd say it's a good deal for everything you get.
