Honda Civic Type R-new record at the Nürburgring
The Renault Megane RS Trophy-R loses the title of the fastest front-wheel drive production model achieved in 2019 on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. On March 24, 2023, the members of the Japanese development team drove the Honda Civic Type R performance model around the German circuit in 7 minutes 44:881 seconds.
The Honda Civic Type R set a new track record on the 20.8 kilometer long Nürburgring Nordschleife and became the fastest front-wheel drive model in the world.
The Japanese performance car has a 2.0-liter engine under the hood and can run at a top speed of 275 km/h.
A new record set by the Honda Civic Type R...The Japanese model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that, in its latest version, produces 329 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Paired with an updated six-speed manual transmission, the Civic Type R is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 275 km/h. The new exterior design also contributed to the record time, with newly developed aerodynamic solutions such as the angle of the rear wing and complex elements under the floor. The Honda Civic Type R has a 35 mm longer wheelbase compared to the previous model and with the help of the multilink rear suspension provides improved cornering stability.
With these technical data, the Honda Civic Type R was able to complete the 20.8 kilometer lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 44:881 seconds. The rival Renault Megane Trophy-R was quoted in 2019 with a time of 7 minutes 54:36 seconds and was at the time the fastest front-wheel drive model around the Nürburgring. The French performance model is equipped with a 1.8-liter engine capable of delivering 300 hp and 400 Nm.
It is not the first time that the Honda Civic Type R has set new records on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. In 2015, the Japanese model managed to set a time of 7 minutes 50.63 seconds, and in 2017 the Type R set a new record in this category with a time of 7 minutes 43.80 seconds. By achieving this time on the Nürburgring in 2017 the Honda Civic Type R beat the 7 minutes 47.19 time achieved by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S in 2016.
