IVECO

Company launched the Brasil Natural Power program in search of the sustainability of its products

Iveco launched the Brasil Natural Power program in Brazil, which encompasses ESG policies focused on sustainability under this umbrella. However, in addition to more ecological products, Iveco will offer new after-sales services. As well as lines of credit that are attractive to customers who want to enter the sustainable journey of the brand.

In any case, the first fruits were presented in the country at Fenatran. That is, the S-Way and Tector trucks powered by natural gas. And the Electric Daily line in options from 3.5 t to 7.2 t of PBT. Vehicles arrive from 2023. But Iveco does not confirm exactly when sales begin. The commercial director of Iveco, Ricardo Barion, says that, now, the company is in the testing phase with the vehicles. And adapting and training the dealer network. That is, it prepares everyone involved in the ecosystem for the arrival of new vehicles.

In any case, models powered by alternative diesel fuels will be under the Natural Power umbrella. In that sense, Barion says there won't be a one-size-fits-all solution with cleaner technology. Even because the customer will still have to account for the TCO (total cost of operation). "We are going to introduce a mix of products to serve the customer. And based on our consultancy, through Brasil Natural Power, we are going to understand the operation's needs. And which is the most qualified product. Likewise, this consultancy will take place in services. And in the acquisition of the vehicle", he explains.

Natural Power around the world...It is worth mentioning that it is not new that Iveco, through programs equivalent to Brazil Natural Power, works on the development of new, cleaner solutions. In this way, the brand maintains a partnership with Nikola in Europe for the development of trucks powered by fuel cells. And the fruit of this partnership is the Nikola Tre truck.

In the United States, the brand has already sold some units of the 100% battery-powered Tre. However, in September, during the Hannover Motor Show, in Germany, the brands presented the electric version, but with a fuel cell base for the European market. It is estimated that the tests in the old continent will start until next year.

Likewise, Iveco signed, during Fenatran, a partnership with the South Korean Hyundai Motor involving Central and South America. Thus, the proposal is to accelerate the transition towards carbon neutrality in the region.

Since the signing of a global memorandum of understanding in Seoul, South Korea, in March this year, the two automakers have formed working groups in various technological areas, with the aim of exploring ways to complement each other in the development of electric vehicles. And also alternative propulsion solutions worldwide.

Thus, in July, an Iveco bus powered by hydrogen with Hyundai's fuel cell system was announced in Turin, Italy. Likewise, at the German fair, Iveco presented the electric prototype eDaily FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle).

Goals..."The reason for the partnerships is also for us to see what is the charging infrastructure capacity that we have in Brazil and in the world. And how we can contribute to the development of this network from now on", says Barion. But, according to the executive, the objective is to import solutions that demonstrate efficiency and work for Brazil. An example of this is eDaily.

Therefore, Barion says that, from the introduction of new products in the Brazilian market, the intention is to be closer to what is sold in Europe in terms of technology. However, as long as it is feasible for the country. Considering TCO and infrastructure, for example.

Iveco vehicles without diesel in Brazil... Thus, despite Iveco having presented the gas Hi-Way already in tests with customers, the model will be discontinued at the end of this year. And as a substitute the brand puts the S-Way. In this way, as it did with the diesel engine version. However, testing continues with the gas Hi-Way because, in addition to the powertrain being the same as the S-Way, the chassis, suspension and other technical components are the same. That is, it changes only the cabin.

Because of this, according to Iveco's commercial director, there will be no conflict in the final result of the tests. On the contrary, as the S-Way has a more modern and aerodynamic cabin compared to the Hi-Way, there may be advantages in terms of consumption.

Bigger engine... Be that as it may, the gas-powered S-Way 460 6x2(image above) arrives with a range of up to 500 km on eight cylinders. The engine was designed for gas. Therefore the Otto cycle. It is the model FPT Cursor 13 NG, with six cylinders in line. It delivers 460 hp of power and 204 mkgf of torque. It is a propellant capable of receiving CNG, LNG or biomethane. The automated transmission is the same as the model's ZF Traxon, 12-speed with intarder.

In addition, the truck in the version with a 2.5 m wide cabin comes with a complete safety package. These include LDWS (Lane Reader), ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), AEBS (Autonomous Emergency Brake System) and SR/ESC (Traction and Stability Control).

The vehicle will be available in two wheelbase versions: 3,500 and 3,200 mm. Which makes it the gas truck most adapted to the different road operations with truck trucks. Iveco opted to debut gas with the 6x2 truck, considering that it covers a large part of the road operation, with autonomy and network.

Semi-heavy Tector 16-210 4x2 NG...In addition to the S-Way, from 2023 Iveco will offer the Tector 16-210 NG(image below). The first model in the line powered by natural gas and biomethane and with 16 t of PBT. The truck, which is already manufactured at the plant in Córdoba, Argentina, has a storage system with a total capacity of 120 m³ of fuel, in the six gas cylinders. Which allows autonomy of 350 km.

With a six-cylinder FPT N60 NG engine, manufactured by FPT Industrial, the Tector develops 204 hp of power and 76 mkgf of torque. This engine works in conjunction with an Eaton 6-speed manual gearbox. Furthermore, the truck arrives in wheelbase versions of 4,185 mm and 4,815 mm.

Electric between semi-light and light...In 2023, Iveco will start selling the 100% electric eDaily. That is, the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version is powered by a rear engine with a maximum power of 140 kW (equivalent to 190 hp) and torque of up to 40.8 mkgf. The battery packs, supplied by FPT Industrial, are installed in a modular way. Thus, it can contain from one to three battery packs according to the customer's needs. Each package has a capacity of 37 kWh, with a maximum capacity of 111 kWh.

The autonomy varies according to the vehicle's load capacity and the number of batteries. But according to Iveco, between 110 km and 300 km. A great advantage of eDaily is the possibility of charging directly from an industrial outlet, as the truck has an internal charger.

In trickle charge mode (11 kW), the battery charging time ranges from three hours with one battery to nine hours with three batteries. Already in fast charge mode (fast charge of 40 kW), the time is between an hour, with one battery, and an hour and a half, with three.
