Consumer Reports: Tesla and Nissan make the most reliable electric vehicles

According to a Consumer Reports survey, the Tesla Model 3 and Nissan Leaf rank second and third on the list of most reliable electric vehicles. The newer Kia EV6 really came out on top, but it hasn't been on the market long enough to provide a fair assessment of its potential long-term problems compared to the tried-and-true options.

Consumer Reports surveys collect information from hundreds of thousands of car owners, which gives us a solid idea of whether or not they have problems and how satisfied they are with their car. Tesla vehicles often rank highly when it comes to customer satisfaction, although the maker's lineup of electric vehicles has been seen as unreliable many times in the past.

Based on Consumer Reports data from over 1,000 Tesla Model 3 owners with vehicles dating back to the 2018 model year, all of these EVs scored average or better reliability.

The Nissan Leaf is also one of the oldest and "original" electric vehicles. After so many years on the market, there's a lot of data to suggest that owners haven't had many significant issues with this electric hatchback.

Nissan Leaf

The publication even goes so far as to say that the Tesla Model 3 and Nissan Leaf "have very few issues with batteries, electric motors or charging", at least based on extensive research data. However, it is always important to remember that each person's situation is unique. You could buy or lease a Model 3 or Leaf tomorrow and experience reliability issues almost immediately, but that's not as likely as it would be on a new EV like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which Consumer Reports no longer recommends because of its low reliability. Evaluation.

As for Tesla, Consumer Reports notes that the Model 3 may be an exception to the brand's lineup. Even around the Model Y, there are reliability concerns, according to surveys. Tesla's flagship models are not without such problems either.

The publication concludes that it is only a matter of time before other automakers are likely to be more successful in producing reliable electric vehicles.
