The strange custom of the British of killing their cars in the water
Aside from a few rare exceptions, the cars are primarily designed for land transport, despite this, British drivers have recently had to frequently test their vehicles' ability to drive on water at Rufford Mill Ford, one of Nottinghamshire's top tourist attractions. The area is often exposed to flooding due to the rains, in which case the water level above the road can reach half a meter.
This is deeper than ideal for most passenger cars, so the most allowable number of engines has already been ruined by the phenomenon, which YouTube videographer Tom Sunderland took a closer look at. He has made over a hundred recordings of cars crossing water, which often generate hundreds of thousands of views for him on the video-sharing site.
In their latest video, they first tried to deal with the water flow with a BMW 4, but after the first few moments, a bigger wave hit the hood. We didn't have to wait long for the aftermath either: it immediately made a screeching sound and stopped shortly after. After several runs, the owner successfully restarted it and left the scene, but more than likely there was a lot of damage to the drive chain.
They overcame the hurdle more easily with a Bentley Bentayga, as well as a small Vauxhall (Opel), and later another BMW escaped the cheaper “bath”. Also, with bigger cars, they wade through the flood more courageously, bathing passersby and onlookers alike – however, this sometimes results in damage to the bumper or other parts.
A few years ago, also in the UK, it was recorded how they drove a Ferrari in a flood caused by a broken pipe, but in Hungary it also happened that they switched an Audi to speedboat mode – which turned out to be a bad idea for other reasons.
