S-Way 2023: the mechanical horse arrives full of electronic solutions for the Brazilian market
The Iveco S-Way will be one of the attractions of Fenatran 2022 in Brazil. It is the successor to the Hi-Way, the brand's new top model in the country. The truck can be seen at the Iveco stand. The biggest event in the transport sector in Latin America starts this Monday, 7th. The new model is full of electronic solutions. According to the manufacturer, the novelty will compete for buyers with rivals such as Mercedes-Benz Actros, Scania R and Volvo FH.
According to the president of Iveco South America, the launch is the result of three years of testing. A good part was carried out with clients, in real operations. Thus, the new mechanical horse ran around 450 million kilometers under different conditions of use.
P8 engine...According to Iveco, one of the model's differentials is the low diesel consumption. According to data from the manufacturer, compared to Hi-Way the reduction reaches 15%. The engine is the 13-liter FPT Cursor 13, offered in three power options. In versions with 4x2 traction, it is 450 hp. For the 6x2, it's 480 hp and, for the 6x4, 540 hp. Torque starts at 250 mkgf.
In addition, the six-cylinder in-line brings solutions to meet the rules of Proconve P8. In other words, the new phase of the Brazilian emission reduction program, equivalent to Euro 6. In this sense, the engine has the technology called Hi-eSCR. Instead of having the EGR, which recirculates the exhaust gases, there is the DPF filter. As well as the DOC oxidation system.
In the same sense, the FTP Cursor 13 has common rail injection and e-VGT variable geometry turbo. The transmission is the second-generation ZF Traxon automated transmission. This box works in conjunction with the GPS navigator and can recognize the road in advance. Thus, it chooses the most suitable gear when, for example, there is an uphill or downhill gradient ahead.
By the way, speaking of slopes, the engine brake is another highlight of the new Iveco S-Way. According to the brand, the braking capacity is 610 hp. Therefore, it is one of the greatest braking powers in trucks in this segment in the country. The device has four stages. As a result, there is greater efficiency and safety in braking, including emergency braking.
The safety of the Iveco S-Way...In the same sense, the tractor has a lane reader and adaptive cruise control, which accelerates and brakes the truck on its own, depending on the traffic ahead. As well as automatic emergency braking, which operates without the need for driver interference. There is also a hill start assistant and electronic traction control.
According to Iveco, the S-Way is offered in Brazil with two cabin options, 2,300 mm and 2,500 mm high. In addition, there are more than 15 standard items, such as air conditioning, a multimedia center with connection to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a multifunctional steering wheel. On-site key and push-button engine start are also part of the package.
The design is also completely new. According to Iveco's director of marketing and product portfolio, Bernardo Brandão, the aerodynamic solutions helped reduce diesel consumption by 5%. The vehicle was developed to face the most severe challenges", he says.
Remote technical assistance... Along with the truck, Iveco is launching new services in Brazil. Now, there is the fleet management platform called Iveco On. According to company information, the objective is to improve productivity and ensure truck availability.
In this sense, remote technical assistance collaborates. That is, it is possible to correct any faults without the truck having to go to a dealership. Through the multimedia system, the driver can connect the S-Way to the Iveco call center and receive instructions and updates.
In addition, it is possible to monitor, for example, the fuel consumption and driving mode of the driver. Thus, the carrier can provide guidance and prepare training to improve productivity. Likewise, the system generates reports for the driver on issues related to safety on board.
