Compact Mercedes A-Class and B-Class models receive internal and external improvements
When the design is good, there is no need to change it much during redesign. This is confirmed by the compact models from Mercedes, Class A and B, whose improvements are most visible in the light groups.
The headlights have a slightly different design, while the difference in the taillights is more evident. Four new wheel design options up to 19 inches in diameter have been added, including a black multi-spoke AMG Line set.
The center console received some minor overhauls. The latest MBUX continues to work with a seven-inch driver display that can be upgraded to a 10.25-inch diagonal.
The main changes are under the hood. The gasoline engines have been given the mild hybrid treatment and are fitted as standard with seven- and eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.
48V technology provides an additional 13 horsepower. For the plug-in hybrid, the electric motor now delivers an additional 7 hp for a total output of 107 hp.
Owners can charge the battery with up to 11 kW of alternating current or 22 kW of direct current, in which case it takes 25 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%.
Mercedes also presents AMG versions – the A35 in hatchback and sedan versions, while the A45 S remains just five-door. Power remains unchanged, with 302 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque.
The AMG A45 S has 422 hp and 500 Nm. Interestingly, it is no longer the most powerful four-cylinder engine installed in a production car.
Placed longitudinally on the new AMG C63, the same M139 generates an incredible 476 hp and 545 Nm. The AMG A45 S reaches a speed of 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the maximum speed is 270 km/h.
Similar changes are also in the B-Class. The MBUX system now includes a fingerprint sensor, an improved Hey Mercedes voice assistant and three redesigned display styles called Classic, Sport and Discreet.
The automaker has also made an effort to make more environmentally conscious choices with the materials used in the cabin, including standard seats with center sections that use 100% recycled materials.
A few safety updates have also been made, including an updated driver assistance package that includes an improved lane-keeping assistance system, active steering control, and an optional tow-maneuver assistance feature.
