IKCO-Iran Khodro
Iranian company creates an interesting clone of the Renault Kwid
The Iranian company IKCO (Iran Khodro) presented two interesting news at an event about cars in Tehran.
The smaller model is the IKCO K112, a subcompact SUV on which IKCO is working together with SAIPA, another Iranian automaker.
The images reveal that the IKCO K112 is actually just a facelifted Renault Kwid that is normally made in India and Brazil, while the electric version is made in China. The French intended to locate production of the Kwid in Iran, but were forced to abandon the project halfway due to sanctions imposed on the country. However, now the Iranians are completing the project.
The IKCO K112 is 3800 mm long and differs from the Renault original by a modified front as well as a different interior. The equipment, among others, includes air conditioning, media and electrical system. window lifters.
The vehicle has five doors, weighs between 770-800 kg and will have a 70-75 hp gasoline engine and a five-speed manual transmission. Average fuel consumption should be less than 5.0 l/100 km.
However, the K112 project is not yet complete as IKCO and SAIPA have not released an approximate date for the start of its production.
Another novelty is the IKCO Ray compact crossover(in the images below), based on the IKP1 platform, that is, the version of the Stellantis platform located in Iran (which is also used by the first generation of the Peugeot 2008).
For Ray, a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 113 hp is planned, with a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive.
Serial production can supposedly be expected during 2023.
