TOWNSTAR: the Japanese utility lands in Europe 100% electrified
The all-electric version of the new Townstar joins Nissan's electrified lineup within the company's Ambition 2030 plan, providing an efficient mobility solution and helping customers adapt to changing emissions regulations, increasing city sizes and the growth of e-commerce.
The 100% electric Townstar builds on the previous success of the Nissan e-NV200. Thanks to its expertise in electric commercial vehicles, Nissan was able to design a product designed to meet the needs of small urban retailers, offering them maximum reliability, sustainability and efficiency.
For this purpose, the all-electric version of the new Townstar has an optimized electric motor with intelligent energy management and battery cooling. Thanks to its careful aerodynamics, it can reach a range of up to 300 km (WLTP cycle). The Electric Townstar delivers 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque, which makes daily work agile and efficient. Its 45 kWh battery can be recharged via alternating current of 11 kW or 22 kW, or by fast charging (in CCS format), which allows users to charge the battery from 15 to 80% in just 37 minutes.
“Designed to meet our customers’ needs and increase demand for sustainable powertrains, Townstar’s class-leading all-electric range will help commercial vehicle owners discover the benefits of electrification, while improving the environment at the center. European cities,” said Emmanuelle Serazin, Director of Corporate Sales and Commercial Vehicles, Nissan Europe.
The Electric Townstar features fresh, future-oriented styling reminiscent of Nissan's other electrified models. The aerodynamic front grille features intricate Kumiko patterning, which heralds Nissan's Japanese DNA and gives the vehicle a refined feel.
Inside, the Electric Townstar puts customer satisfaction and ergonomics first. With more than 20 technological features, including on-board connectivity and a 10-inch digital display, the Electric Townstar positions itself as the most advanced model in Nissan's current lineup of commercial vehicles.
The 100% electric Townstar will introduce Nissan's advanced ProPILOT Assist driving assistance system to the commercial vehicle lineup. This technology, together with Nissan's exclusive 360 Camera, provides greater safety for drivers, especially in busy city centers. Additional options to improve in-cab comfort include a windshield and heated front seats. Meanwhile, a heat pump improves both efficiency and comfort in colder temperatures by distributing battery heat throughout the cabin.
“Our electrification experience and leadership in the electric light commercial vehicle segment was a critical component in the development of the all-electric version of Townstar,” continued Serazin. "We are confident that Townstar Electric's advanced safety equipment, multiple possible configuration options and practical capabilities are perfectly suited to the future of sustainable business operations."
Other highlights include a payload of up to 800 kg and a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg. Townstar Electric's versatile load zone has up to 4.9 cubic meters of capacity, enough to transport two Euro pallets.
Among the available active and passive safety technologies are blind spot warning, automatic parking, active cruise control, emergency braking assistant and trailer anti-sway assist.
For Marta Marimon, Brand Manager Commercial Vehicles at Nissan Iberia, “The new electric Townstar brings together all of Nissan's know-how in terms of zero-emission mobility to offer our customers a product adapted to the changing needs of today's European metropolitan environments. ”.
