TESLA

Company has returned to 100% capacity utilization at its factory in China

The second quarter was extremely difficult for many factories in China due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, but the Tesla factory in Shanghai had the opportunity to end the semester on an upbeat note. According to the latest data, the company has finally returned to 100% capacity utilization.

According to the TeslaRati portal, the Tesla factory was closed at the end of March due to strict sanitary measures adopted in the Middle Kingdom and, in particular, in Shanghai. Due to the quarantine, production was idle for more than three weeks and only partially resumed in April, although the company has to apply a closed production system with employees who live on the factory's territory.

Since then, Tesla China has produced more than 40,000 vehicles, according to state-owned Shanghai Securities News. It was this edition that marked the return to loading 100% of production lines. This is a huge achievement for Tesla China, as the transition to a closed production cycle has caused a number of problems. Thus, the second shift was added only at the end of May.

Shanghai Securities News noted that Tesla is not only working to optimize the operation of the Giga Shanghai plant, but also helping companies in the related technology chain to return to work. According to rumors, the manufacturer's initiatives were supported by the Shanghai authorities, who took a series of organizational measures and even created a joint working group with the leadership of Tesla's local division.

Despite a closed production system and a limited number of employees present at work, Tesla China sold 32,165 electric vehicles in May alone, according to the China Passenger Transport Association (CPCA). Of these, 22,340 cars were shipped abroad – the Shanghai factory today is a major export hub for Tesla.

Last month Tesla China is known to have produced 33,544 cars in total, 212% more than in April 2022.
