911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America: the exclusive print version for the North American market
The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America is a limited and specific series for the North American market. As of the end of 2022, 115 units will be manufactured, 100 for the United States and 15 for Canada, making it one of the most exclusive 911s of the 992 generation. Its arrival marks the continuation of a tradition that began in 1952: a sports convertible specifically for the American market. Featured at the 2022 Porsche Parade in Poconos (Pennsylvania), it is based on the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, with the same chassis and engine. It will be available exclusively with a 7-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
“The passion for driving a Porsche is very strong in the United States. There's something special about going out on the road in a 911 convertible with a manual transmission,” commented Porsche Cars North America President and General Manager Kjell Gruner. “This is also the perfect time to add another ‘America’ version to our history, as we look back on the 356 America Roadster 70 years ago and the 964 America Roadster 30 years ago.”
A high-performance sports car for convertible enthusiasts...The new 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America features a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder, biturbo boxer engine, which delivers 480 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque. It is equipped as standard with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, which reduces the ground clearance by 10 mm, and has secondary springs on the rear axle. The sports exhaust system and Sport Chrono package are also standard equipment, while rear axle steering and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) will be optional. The standard cast iron brake discs measure 408 mm at the front, with six-piston aluminum calipers; the diameter of the rears is 380 mm and they have four-piston aluminum calipers finished in black. The standard equipment also includes the Black leather interior, the seat belts in Guardia Red and the tachometer with a White background.
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur design...The aesthetic changes applied by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur make it a striking sports car, both from afar and up close. From the range of available colors, the experts chose the 356 Azure Blue, inspired by the 1953 356 America Roadster and reserved for this edition. The specially finished RS Spyder design wheels have the inner spokes in White, the outer flat surfaces in Silver and there is a protective stripe in Guardia Red along the edge of the wheel. At the bottom of the doors, there is a sticker with the word 'America' in White on a white background with a Guardia Red stripe. The model designation on the rear bears the '911 Carrera' in White and the 'GTS' in Guardia Red.Inside there is a combination of Guardia Red and Pebble Gray stitching, including along the top of the dash and on the door panels. These two-tone stitching continues on the center console armrest, where 'America' is engraved in the leather. Also included as standard are illuminated door sill plaques commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 356 America Roadster. An optional interior package extends this combination of elements in Red on the steering wheel, gearshift and seats.
About the 356 America Roadster...Max Hoffman, Porsche's first US importer, quickly found success among US customers with the 356 when he began selling it in 1950. Hoffman knew a more affordable model would help him reach more customers and convinced Porsche to develop a special, simpler version for this market: the 1953 356 America Roadster. . This figure represented a significant leap from previous models, which had a smaller 40 hp engine. This very basic sports car gave way to the 356 Speedster, which used the steel body of the 356 Cabriolet with reduced equipment, although not as much as its predecessor. Only 16 examples of the 356 America Roadster were made, making it one of the most exclusive 356.
About the 964 America Roadster...In 1992, some 40 years after the first 'America Roadster', Porsche revived the concept as part of the 911 of the 964 generation. with improved performance, it reached American dealers in limited quantities: 250 units. This special series featured the bodywork, brakes, suspension and 17-inch Porsche Cup wheels from the 911 Turbo. In this sense, the commonalities in the 992 generation between the GTS version and the Turbo, together with the Carrera engine, make the new Cabriolet America a true spiritual successor to the America Roadsters.
