General Motors Corporation is gradually expanding its range of electric vehicles using the Ultium platform. Next spring, as management recalled, the Chevrolet Equinox EV crossover, which will start at $30,000, will be joined by a larger Chevrolet Blazer EV. The mid-size crossover will be unveiled on July 18, but for now, the only official photo has been published.
Stylistically, the Blazer EV's appearance overlaps with the previously introduced Equinox EV, but the increased wheelbase sets different proportions. The novelty differs from classic Blazer models in a more squat silhouette, and this is clearly done to reduce aerodynamic drag. There's one detail the Blazer EV has in common with the more expensive Cadillac Lyriq crossover - a large charging port cover is located on the part of the left front fender adjacent to the driver's door. The latter also received a stamping that visually highlights this area.
According to GM, the Chevrolet Blazer EV will be the first to go on sale in the richer SS (Super Sport) version, which is shown in the photo. Specifications, equipment and cost are expected to be released on July 18. The GM Ultium platform has already brought the Hummer EV SUV and Cadillac Lyriq crossover to life, and next year they will be joined by the Cadillac Celestiq sedan and Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup, as well as the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Blazer EV crossovers. By the middle of the decade, GM Corporation expects to increase annual production of electric vehicles to 1 million units.
