Mercedes-Maybach SL: the new model in the image above is part of an ambitious strategic plan by the German giant
Mercedes-Benz has launched an ambitious strategic plan. A roadmap that includes the release of new models. All this under the premise of prioritizing the profit margin per unit sold in relation to volume. The era of 'Mercedes for all' comes to an end. And proof of that is one of the projects that received the green light and that will soon see the light under the Maybach seal. A project whose protagonist is the new Mercedes-AMG SL.
The Mercedes-AMG SL has recently started its commercial journey in the market. A model that enters the scene assuming history and that, for its new generation, bets on sportiness thanks to the signature of Mercedes-AMG. However, the German group will take advantage of this development to add a model to its product portfolio that is capable of taking on the Bentley Continental GT in its convertible version. The Mercedes-Maybach SL will be a reality.
Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz, released through his official profile on social media an interesting preview of the future Mercedes-AMG SL under the Maybach brand. A brief preview that allows us to glimpse some of the keys to the exterior design. And more specifically from the front of the vehicle. It will be in this area where the aesthetic novelties will be concentrated.
The future Mercedes-Maybach SL will feature a new fully chrome grille and, as it could not be otherwise, will adopt the Maybach emblem. An insignia that, in this case, was printed on the hood of the vehicle. Wagener adds that the teaser corresponds to a conceptual model. Therefore, we are not facing the production vehicle. However, and as has been customary in these cases, it will largely approach the definitive model.
At the moment there are many unknowns about the next release of Maybach. No details were given about the mechanics. However, and analyzing the mechanical offer of the Mercedes-AMG SL, and taking into account the future engines that will be incorporated into the line, it is not ruled out that the company will ultimately opt for the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine.
The reports currently available also do not close the door on the fact that the new Mercedes-Maybach SL is an electrified vehicle. In a short time, plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV) will be added to the line-up, and based on the fact that there will soon be a Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, it is another option to consider.
Wagener followed up on the photo posted on social media with the following comment: “A look at the Concept Mercedes-Maybach SL reveals more about the future opportunities of our company's most exclusive brand. For customers who want a sophisticated luxury driving experience and design.”
The release date of the Mercedes-Maybach SL is also unknown. Now, it won't be a surprise if it's unveiled before 2025.
