Civic e:HEV, the hybrid version of the brand's model arrives in Europe
After a few months of great anticipation, the new generation of the Honda Civic (the 11th) will hit European markets in autumn 2022. The main novelty is that it will do so in the form of a 100% hybrid version under the name Civic e:HEV , using the surname present in other current models in the line.In this way, the new Honda Civic e:HEV is a compact five-door that uses, like the CR-V, an Atkinson cycle 2.0 4-cylinder gasoline engine, combined with two electric thrusters and a lithium-ion battery. , to develop a total power of 184 hp and a maximum torque of 315 Nm.
The Honda Civic e:HEV's hybrid system associates the thermal engine with two electric motors, working in parallel. The former is controlled by a new compact control unit, allowing the gasoline engine to achieve a thermal efficiency of 41%.
On the other hand, both electric motors work together to provide the new Honda with instant torque and powerful acceleration, thanks to the compact battery housed under the rear seats and endowed with greater energy density.
Continuing with the technical part, the hybrid system automatically selects one of the three available operating modes: EV, hybrid and engine. The driver can then choose between four driving modes: Econ, Normal, Sport and Individual; the latter to separately control the engine and transmission.
The one-speed transmission, controlled by a specific ECU, optimizes driving in any situation and allows the Civic e:HEV to achieve an official combined consumption of 20 km/l and CO2 emissions of less than 110 g/km.Regarding the aesthetic part, the design of the new Civic (European version) replicates the approach of the version that already debuted in the United States, offering a more innovative image compared to the current generation. The vehicle's front height stands out, with a 25 mm lower hood, as well as improved visibility thanks to the panoramic windshield design.
In the same way, we can appreciate a lower height of the shoulders of the body. According to the brand, this was done to offer better visibility to the rear passengers, while the front (A) pillar moved backwards and the mirrors mounted on the doors improve practicality and reduce blind spots.
Another detail that can be seen in the images is that the distance between the axes has been increased, specifically, by 35 millimeters. This detail, together with an increase in the width of the rear track, results in a more spacious cabin.
The back cover is made of resin (composite material) for the first time, weighs 20% less than a metal equivalent, is easier to lift and has hinges shifted out to optimize the roof line.
In the cabin of the new Honda Civic e:HEV, the horizontal design of the dashboard stands out, with ventilation screens in a metallic finish covering the entire width of the front. Starting with the Advance finish, the instrument panel has a 10.2-inch HD digital screen, while the infotainment system's central touch display is 9.0-inch and is located higher than on the current generation Civic.
Likewise, the new Civic also offers wireless connectivity to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, sound equipment with eight speakers as standard in the Elegance and Sport versions, and 12 in the Advance with equipment signed by the Bose specialist.
Regarding safety and driving assistance systems, the Honda Civic e:HEV offers the well-known system called Honda Sensing, which includes a new 100º wide-angle front camera, with improved recognition technology, to detect pedestrians, speed limits, and other vehicles, including bicycles and motorcycles.
For the first time, the new Civic is equipped with sonar sensors, four at the front and four at the rear, as well as upgrades to other familiar devices such as lane keeping, adaptive cruise control and blind spot control. .
Nor should we forget about the rear cross-traffic alert system and the 11 airbags available. For now there are no prices informed, but the model will arrive at European dealers in the autumn of that continent.
