Hilux GR-S and Corolla Cross GR-Sport are the two versions with the exclusive equipment package from GAZOO Racing
Toyota GAZOO Racing presents two new products for the Brazilian market: the generation III of the Hilux GR-S, a new version of the pick-up developed under the GR philosophy at Toyota's plant in Zárate, Argentina, designed primarily for off-road use. road; and the Corolla Cross GR-Sport, a sporty version of the brand's recent global success midsize model, produced at the Sorocaba (SP) plant. The models went on sale yesterday, March 23, and can be found at Toyota dealerships nationwide.
The Toyota Hilux is one of the legends of the Dakar Rally and one of the models that won the most challenging race in the world. The success achieved by Toyota GAZOO Racing in Dakar inspired the creation of the new Hilux GR-S. In the Corolla Cross, the vehicle's sporty aura is highlighted by the rear spoiler, exclusive bumpers from the GR line, air diffusers and emblems that highlight the GAZOO Racing identity.
The new Hilux GR-S is equipped with a 224 hp 2.8 liter inline 4-cylinder diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharger (TGV) and intercooler (1GD), coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. With that, the pick-up, in this GR-S version, gained 20 hp in relation to the other versions of the portfolio. It also features improvements to the suspension, providing remarkable dynamic behavior, as well as a renovation in its external and internal design.
The GR-Sport version of the Corolla Cross follows the structure of Toyota's pillars of quality, durability and reliability with the added touch of GAZOO Racing sportiness. Equipped with the same engine as the other versions, the Dynamic Force 2.0 Dual VVT-iE1 16V Flex of 177 hp, however, delivers more dynamic performance, as it brings as a novelty a new configuration of the MacPherson suspension, increasing the degree of sporty steering.
Both vehicles were developed under the expertise of the team of engineers of the Toyota GAZOO Racing brand in Latin America, who seek to translate and take lessons from the racetrack and performance cars to street vehicles.
COROLLA CROSS...The new Corolla Cross GR-Sport is another product of the brand that fulfills the mission 'pushing the limits for better' (in free translation, 'going to the limit in search of the best'), motto of Toyota GAZOO Racing that aims to develop ever better cars with sporting appeal.
Unique improvements to the suspension design, with the addition of a structural arm attached to the chassis to give the vehicle greater rigidity, left the Corolla Cross GR-Sport with a low degree of roll and greater solidity, increasing steering precision and stability. As a result, the responses are more linear and progressive in relation to the steering wheel, providing a dynamic driving experience. The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) Software has been adjusted in order to improve handling assistance, bringing more sensation of movement and vehicle control in response to manoeuvres.
The power train features the efficient Dynamic Force 2.0 Dual VVT-iE1 16V Flex engine, which, fueled with ethanol, yields 177 hp at 6,600 rpm, and maximum torque of 210 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The Corolla Cross has a ten-speed Direct Shift transmission, which provides smoother shifts and a more direct acceleration sensation compared to the conventional CVT. The driver has three driving modes available (Normal, Sport and Eco), which adapt to the style and, above all, the type of terrain, delivering more or less power, according to demand.
TOYOTA HILUX...The spirit of the new Hilux GR-S seeks to further enhance dynamic performance, with enhancements to engine power and pickup suspension, designed to provide greater capacity and robustness when handling and traversing the toughest terrain. .
The 2.8-liter in-line 4-cylinder 1GD diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharger (TGV) and intercooler (1GD) delivers a maximum power of 224 hp and maximum torque of 540 Nm at 2,800 rpm of maximum torque mated to an automatic transmission. 6-speed with sequential actuation and butterflies behind the steering wheel. The mechanics are combined with the 4x2, 4x4 and 4x4 reduced traction system, with electronic drive, automatic differential disconnection and active traction control. This set offers fast acceleration, with more agile reactions, giving the vehicle an accentuated sporty character that results in an exhilarating drive.
These characteristics are highlighted by the suspension, which received a new configuration in the springs to gain greater rigidity, in addition to increasing the diameter of the monotube dampers by 30% compared to other Hilux models. The result is seen in the steering, with a more direct and linear response in high-speed conditions, both on and off-road terrain, emphasizing driving comfort, without affecting the load capacity. Thus, the driver increases the degree of confidence and safety behind the wheel, especially on low-grip terrain, such as dirt and unpaved roads.
