Brand will launch in Brazil a Montana semi-pickup with 1.3L turbo engine of Chinese origin
Forget the anti-Toro Chevrolet Montana. The target of the new Montana will be, yes, a Fiat pickup, but not the Toro but the Strada. The new Chevrolet Montana was photographed in tests by a reader of Quatro Rodas magazine (image below). The photo clearly shows that the new generation of the GM pickup will be smaller in size than the Toro. We had recently shown the 2023 Montana in testing at GM Korea.
The new Chevrolet Montana is likely to have a size between the Fiat Strada's 4.48 m and the Fiat Toro's 4.94 m. It is worth remembering that the Chevrolet Tracker - SUV that will give the platform to the new Montana - measures 4.51 m in length. We can bet on an intermediate pickup, with about 4.70 m, to be more capable than the Strada and more affordable than the Toro.
Thus, GM will be able to offer in the new Montana a bucket superior to that of the Strada Double Cab (844 liters) and close to or equal to the Toro's (937 liters). The old Montana Single Cab had a 1,152 liter bucket. It is also part of American culture to offer pickup trucks with a large load capacity.
As for the engine, according to Quatro Rodas, the new Chevrolet Montana should surprise with an offer of the 1.3 turbo engine of the Chevrolet Tracker sold in China. This engine has 164 horsepower and could equip the top-of-the-line Montana, which would be very competitive against the entry-level Toro. The basic engine, however, must be the 133 hp 1.2 turbo from the national Tracker.
If you want to expand the offer and enter the fight of volume of compact pickups, GM still has the 1.0 turbo engine of 116 hp that equips not only the Tracker, but also the Onix and Onix Plus. In this report, we present two projections made by the designer Kleber Silva - one with the Montana based on the Tracker and the other with the front of the new Chevrolet Equinox.
