Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN presents its new car for the 2022 season
This is the C42 in its full glory. The latest Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN racing single-seater has finally been unveiled, sporting an eye-catching red and white livery, completing a grid of competitors for what promises to be an incredible Formula 1 season.
After a week of testing in Barcelona, the C42 was presented through a set of images and videos released simultaneously to the media and fans around the world.
The Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN C42 is the first single-seater produced in Hinwil within the new regulatory budget package and for the new era of Formula 1 that begins in 2022. Designed by a team led by Technical Director Jan Monchaux, the C42 represents a cut radical with the past, embracing the possibilities dictated by the new ground effect bottom, the updated aero package and the low-profile 18-inch tires. Powered by a new and evolved Ferrari engine, the C42 is a machine designed for battle, under new regulations, which will allow for more direct confrontations and fights throughout the entire pack, from the front to the back of the grid.
The new livery represents a striking but subtle nod to the past, recalling historic designs from years gone by and the Alfa Romeo and Sauber Motorsport heritage of the Hinwil team's 30 years in Formula 1.
Created by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, the new decor gives the car a powerful and identifiable identity. The painting represents a perfect blend of the two dominant colors, red and white. The engine area is painted in red, with a diagonal section that conveys the dynamism of the single-seater body. The historic 'Alfa Romeo' lettering fits diagonally as a reference to the beginning of the 20th century, when the brand's racing cars debuted in the 1920s. Below is the reference 'Tonale', the name of the first C-SUV that was recently revealed. Representing competition and sportsmanship, the ‘Quadrifoglio’ symbol can be found at the top, in line with the diagonal that divides the red and white tones. The Italian flag appears on the back of the spoiler, proudly integrating the 'Alfa Romeo' brand. In the hands of Valtteri Bottas, winner of 10 Grands Prix, and Zhou Guanyu, the first F1 driver from China and the only newcomer to the 2022 grid, the C42 is thus ready to impress.
