FÓRMULA-1

Binotto still believes

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has said the reaction to the new F1 regulations will be 'key' to whether the team can return to winning ways in the series.

The Scuderia are without a win since Sebastian Vettel won the Singapore GP in 2019.

Speaking at a post-season media briefing, Binotto stated: "What will be important for us is that we continue to grow, without a doubt, and further reduce the gap to competitors."

“I think the new regulations are a good opportunity and the hope is to be competitive, and for me, being competitive means being in a position to win races.”

“Would that mean we can fight for a championship? I think if I look at it today, the difference is still big, but I think certainly, as a Ferrari, it's part of our DNA."

“The important thing is certainly to be able to fight at least in the races for pole positions and victory,” he said.

Ferrari suffered its worst season since 1980 two years ago, but bounced back well last year, beating McLaren for third place, trailing only Mercedes and Red Bull.

“It could be that at the beginning of the season there is a competitive difference between the cars, because of the way each team may have interpreted the rules and solutions that you can bring.”

“So it's a reaction from the team that will be key. I said we cannot be confident in having a competitive car from the start because you never know what it can be when you have such a big shift,” he added.
