Stations that change electric car batteries in just two minutes are already a reality in China

To prevent owners from spending too much time at stations, some electric car manufacturers offer very high charging speeds. Others, especially Chinese brands, allow the battery to be completely replaced with a fully charged one. It's like replacing a digital camera battery with a “new” one.

In a video posted on Twitter(@DSORennie), we see how quickly a Chinese taxi changes its battery. The operation, performed by a robot, takes two minutes and costs the equivalent of just $7-In winter, the vehicle travels, with full battery, 150 km, according to the driver.

The number of stations that change batteries has grown rapidly in China. In the summer of 2020, there were 452 such points in the Asian state. In October 2021, only Nio owned 504 stations. In addition, the Geely Group plans to operate 5,000 by 2025.

So far no one has been able to submit the perfect solution, which is not strange. However, Chinese companies want to aggressively expand into these markets. Certainly Asians will bring with them stations where batteries can be changed quickly.

Connectors and batteries may be standardized in the future so that multi-brand cars use the same batteries.

Some companies, like Tesla, refuse to use removable packs. According to them, the integration of these components in the body allows them to offer greater autonomy and less weight.
