BRAND LAUNCHES TRUCK WITH 10x4 CONFIGURATION AND HIGHER LOAD CAPACITY

Scania presents its new 10x4 configuration vehicle to the market, the only one in the national industry. The Scania G 540 10x4 / 6 XT Heavy Tipper arrives to be the closest truck to the yellow line in net cargo capacity (up to 55 t), with Opex (operating expenses) and Capex (capital expenses) much lower, total cost of much more competitive (TCO) operation, in addition to greater versatility in the activity, which translates into increased productivity. All components, for example, power train, axles and embedded technologies are 100% Scania.
“Scania has been investing globally for many years in the development of off-road trucks. They are already born with DNA 100% vocational for off-road. As they are not adapted, they make the customer's operation more efficient ”, explains Silvio Munhoz, Scania Solutions Sales Director in Brazil. “The XT off-road vocational line debuted with the New Generation in 2018. Its broad portfolio is an absolute success in reducing the customer's operating cost. The time has come to launch the product with the highest load capacity on the market and which brings the best solution compared to the yellow line ”.




Produced with components even more robust than the other members of the XT line, the G 540 10x4 Heavy Tipper was developed to meet the most severe demands of mining and heavy construction (which makes up the great infrastructure works: hydroelectric, for example).
“Despite the pandemic, the year 2020 kept the mining segment stable, heated and providing great business for Scania. Large constructions have been gradually resumed by public and private initiatives ”, says Munhoz. “August was the best for us in measuring the last 30 months of sales of products in the off-road range, with more than 350 units sold. Therefore, we remain confident in the potential of these two markets for the coming years ”.

Vocational to revolutionize the market
The Scania G 540 10x4 arrives to expand the XT Heavy Tipper range, formed until then by the 6x4 and 8x4 models (one of the brand's best sellers). The G 540 10x4 jumps from the current 44 tons of net load capacity of the Heavy Tipper 8x4 to up to 55 tons, considerably increasing its productivity. Thus, the total gross weight (PBT) rises to an insurmountable 69 t. “Competitors offer a maximum of 35 tons of cargo and 50 tons of PBT. Scania is innovating the market once again and will exceed customer expectations ”, stresses Fabricio Vieira, Scania's Off-Road Solutions manager in Brazil. "Still compared to the 8x4 competitors, the Scania 10x4 allows up to 15% reduction in cost per ton, as fewer vehicles are needed to move the same load".
To drive this super-truck under the cab is state-of-the-art motorization, with XPI high-pressure fuel injection technology, 540 horsepower and 2,700 Nm of torque. The New Generation propeller also has the advantage of saving at least 8% fuel compared to the previous range.
The Scania G 540 10x4 XT Heavy Tipper was developed and dimensioned with the best to face the challenges of mining and construction sites in the most adverse operating conditions.




The super-truck is equipped with rear bogie (nominal capacity of 36 t) and directional axles (11 t each), cardan shaft that supports higher torque for better starting on a ramp, greater strength of the differential and hub reducer with final ratio 7.63, which enable an unmatched maximum traction capacity (CMT) of up to 210 tons. The fifth axle (100% Scania) has a new drive mechanism and has changed its position (moving to the front of the rear bogie). To support the greater load demand, the entire suspension set (springs, stabilizer bars and shock absorbers) was changed.
On the other hand, to ensure the necessary safety during operation, the steering system has become more robust and the brake has been reinforced in the system to provide better braking performance.
The 100% automated Opticruise transmission has 14 speeds and features the Off-Road lever, which, when activated, makes the propeller rotate at wider speeds. The gearbox is of the GRSO935R version and offers much higher resistance. The lay shaft brake, a secondary axle brake, is incorporated and guarantees faster, safer and smoother changes.
The auxiliary braking system has the renowned Scania Retarder hydraulic brake with decoupling of the power train rotor, which works when the system is not activated to save fuel. With a power of 4,100 Nm, it significantly increases braking performance, especially at low speeds, in addition to decreasing maintenance costs, as it reduces the wear on the service brake, tarpaulins and drums, especially on steep and very steep descents.




Complete the standard items, traction control, hill-hold (assistance system that holds the vehicle on slopes, preventing it from receding at the time of exit), rear axle with double differential, steel bumper with angle of attack of 29º, headlight protection, reinforced rear-view mirrors and front towing pin with a capacity of 40 t. Scania is the only one that has customized items for off-road, such as vertical windshield wiper, torque indicators for wheel bolts, articulated step and preparation for the inclinometer and for the physical and electrical structure of the implement .
The Heavy Tipper 10x4 can be equipped with some options that guarantee even more safety in the operation. Among them, airbag on the steering wheel and side curtain airbag (against tipping over), which provide more protection to drivers. The vehicle can also be specified with a breathalyzer, which only releases the start after testing that the driver has not drunk alcohol in the last few hours.

When driving a Scania, the driver perceives the difference in perfect ergonomics and superior comfort compared to competitors. The New Generation cabin was designed from the driver's seat to meet all your needs. It is a valuable Scania differential for increasing operator productivity. The glazed area is larger and there has been a decrease in blind spots, which further improves visibility and driving safety.



XT Line: a new off-road makes the operation even more vocational
For off-road segments (sugarcane, lumber, construction and mining) the New Generation of trucks offers the P, G and R cabins with the XT vocational line. There are options for different ceiling heights, axles and spring or pneumatic suspensions suitable for extreme conditions, electric parking brake and solutions adapted to each application.




For the mining and heavy construction segments, both for transportation inside and outside operations, Scania offers a wide range of solutions, in its portfolio, with the most varied loading options to maximize productivity, availability and with the lowest possible cost per tonne transported. The powers range from 220 to 620 hp and the torques from 1,000 to 3,000 Nm. The available traction units are 4x2, 4x4, 6x4, 6x6 and 8x4. And, now at 10x4. The vehicles can be platform (rigid chassis) and mechanical horse.



Scania: avant-garde history and innovations in the off-road segment
In 1999, Scania presented the first 8x4 truck on the Brazilian market, which was part of the 4 Series and had 360 hp. In 2007, another pioneer was the launch, precisely, of the 10x4 traction, part of the P, G and R Series, a range prior to the New Generation. In 2012, Scania introduced the new off-road generation of the P, G and R. Series. New grille, new angle of attack, more options for standard and optional equipment, were examples of the novelties.
In 2017, Scania innovated by launching the Heavy Tipper range, with the 6x4 and 8x4 versions. In 2018, the vocational line XT arrives with the New Generation of trucks. In addition to advancing in services over the past few decades. It was the first to modernize the service to the sector with the construction of a concessionaire branch in a mine (Dedicated Services - to speed up the whole process), in the creation of a personalized maintenance program and by placing a container of parts and tools in the confined operation.
