TESLA

Korean giant LG to supply batteries for the brand

Korean company LG Chem already supplies Tesla traction batteries for electric vehicles assembled in Shanghai. The growth in demand for Tesla products forces the volume of battery purchases to increase, and LG Chem will reorient one of its companies in South Korea to fulfill Tesla's orders. In the second quarter, Tesla delivered significantly more electric vehicles than analysts had expected.
According to reports, Tesla will set up production of traction batteries at a plant in California. The company now receives them from the Chinese company LG Chem, and the Shanghai assembly electric vehicles can also be equipped with batteries manufactured by the Chinese company CATL. Tesla was initially satisfied with the Nevada plant's production capabilities, but now the demand for electric cars determines the need to increase battery production by all suppliers.
Now, Reuters, citing well-informed sources, reports that this year LG Chem will launch the production of Tesla electric vehicle traction batteries at a factory in South Korea, expanding the geography of its production. Tesla is being taken to this step by the growing demand for electric cars, and other battery suppliers will also have to increase production for the needs of the American customer.
In the last quarter, Tesla produced 82,272 electric vehicles (6,326 copies of the Model S/X and 75,946 copies of the Model 3/Y), 90,650 electric vehicles were shipped (10,600 copies of the Model S/X and 80,050 copies of the Model 3/Y). This is significantly higher than the expectations of analysts who ordered 72,000 electric vehicles. The company was not even hindered by a long halt to the main transporter in Fremont, due to the need for self-isolation.
In a recent request to the German authorities, Tesla listed changes related to its own plans to build a company near Berlin. The projected production volume of 500 thousand electric vehicles per year is indicated in the form of “100 thousand units”, the production of plants will be located in a separate building and it was decided to completely abandon the production of traction batteries in this enterprise. On the other hand, a location for a test track in the company's territory will be provided. The foundation is already being launched, although Tesla has not yet received all permits. Construction is scheduled to be completed in March next year, and the launch of the Model Y intersections in Germany will be launched in July.
