What Argentines thought of the brand new model

With the promise of being the main launch of Peugeot for the Brazilian market in 2020, the new generation of the 208 will be manufactured in Argentina, where it should start selling from August. There, the press in that country had the opportunity to test some pre-series units (still subject to minor modifications) of the novelty and, in general, approved.
In the report of colleagues from Argentina Autoblog, the new generation Peugeot 208 equipped with a 1.6 16V gasoline engine aspirated with 115 hp was evaluated together with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, the car still had many camouflages inside and out to disguise the final look of the novelty.
The Argentines pointed out that the new Peugeot 208 proved to have a quality of riding very close to that seen in the VW Polo, not very “sedated” in the responses of the management and showing a good balance between handling and comfort. This was pointed out as the highlight of the new generation. Although even the dashboard was camouflaged, the instruments were missing and showed the same three-dimensional effect as the digital part used in the brand's 3008 and 5008 SUVs.



However, the new generation of the Peugeot 208 did not just win praise from the Argentines. In the neighboring country, the attitude of adopting rear drum brakes in the car was criticized. In addition, the fact that the current 1.6 16V engine was reused demonstrated the automaker's delay. While the chassis shows the ability to withstand much more performance, performance is limited by the old engine and transmission.
However, it was also pointed out that the new generation of the Peugeot 208 should bring more safety equipment as standard, such as stability control. In addition, the more complete versions of the hatch range should also have driving aid systems, such as autonomous emergency braking.
