MERCEDES-BENZ

THE AFFALTERBACH MODEL COMES MORE BRUTAL

Just a few days ago Mercedes-AMG unveiled the first teaser of the model that represents the return of the Black Series saga to the brand. A video accompanied by the popular youtuber Shmee150, which can be seen below, was only an advance of what has finally been revealed today. These are all the details of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
Thus, Mercedes-AMG arrives to revolutionize the super sports segment with a product willing to compete as equals with models such as the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. The engineers took advantage of their knowledge acquired in competition to implement specific improvements that would allow the Black Series family, which had been without a representative for years, to offer the best of the German manufacturer in a totally legal model for use on public roads.

Inspired by the GT3 and GT4 race cars, the most radical Mercedes-AMG GT built to date adopts an aggressive front, with a bumper that integrates numerous aerodynamic appendages and an imposing splitter to generate aerodynamic load. Also new is the hood, which now has two marked ventilation outlets with aerodynamic and cooling functions for the powerful 8-cylinder engine.

From the side we can see the new skirts and wheels forged in double measure (19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the back) fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires developed specifically. Now, in the rear is where we find the greatest amount of changes, starting with the huge airfoil and ending in an extraordinary rear diffuser that integrates the two double exhaust ports, thus abandoning the central exhaust design of the original model.

It is worth mentioning that both the hood, as the roof, the airfoil, the rear bumper, the trunk lid, the front splitter, the side skirts and the rear-view mirrors are made of carbon fiber, while the windows are more thin to contribute to weight reduction, although Mercedes-AMG did not specify how many pounds it saved with these elements. Thanks to all these modifications, the new member of the Black Series family generates more than 400 kilos of aerodynamic load at 250 km / h.

The interior changes are a little less relevant, but the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series 2021 is equipped with a pair of carbon fiber sports seats upholstered with Nappa leather and microfiber. We can find some contrasting orange seams and matte carbon frames, as well as details that include the microfiber-lined sports steering wheel and the lighter door panels with a handle that has been replaced by a competition-style leather strap.

Customers who want a little more exclusivity inside the GT Black Series can opt for the optional AMG Track package, which adds four-point belts, a fire extinguisher and a titanium santoantonio to the formula. Another interesting interior detail is the small button known as AMG Traction Control, which offers up to nine levels of sliding of the rear axle. The first level is designed to drive on the wet, while the last level seeks to make the rear axle as sliding as possible.

Powertrain 4.0-liter, of 800 Nm

Regarding the mechanics of the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the Affalterbach brand engineers bet on the well-known 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, a propeller that now delivers 730 hp of power and a maximum torque of 800 Nm. becomes the most powerful production version of this engine.
To achieve these levels of performance, the engine was equipped with a flat crankshaft, new camshafts, redesigned exhaust manifolds and a dry sump lubrication system. It also includes a new ignition order, larger compressor turbines and a complete exhaust system that improves your engine's sound. The block appears coupled to a seven-speed, double-clutch automatic transmission that has been reinforced to withstand such high levels of torque.

This configuration allows the GT Black Series to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds, to reach 200 km / h in less than 9 seconds and to register a maximum speed of 325 km / h. Like the Mercedes-AMG GT R, its bigger brother equips a coilover suspension with an adaptive damping system, complemented by adjustable stabilizer bars. The chassis was also reinforced to add rigidity and a ceramic brake system with pads and racing discs was installed.
