CHEVROLET S10 2021: Arrives in Brazil with on-board internet and autonomous braking

Agribusiness is the fastest growing sector in the economy, and the Chevrolet S10's strong link with the field gains even more relevance. This is because the farmer's favorite pick-up arrives at the 2021 line with a series of innovative features that add productivity to everyday life, such as the native Wi-Fi system.
From livestock to precision agriculture, everything revolves around connectivity. In addition, the pick-up ends up becoming the countryman's office and the internet is a strategic work tool for managing and operating the business in real time.

The signal that is up to 12 times more stable than that of a smartphone is the main differential of the native Wi-Fi of the Nova S10, which is able to remain connected to the 4G network longer due to the antenna that amplifies the signal - this translates at higher data transmission speed.
“The pickup truck tends to roll around a lot. We know that Brazil is a continental country and that internet signal coverage is not uniform, so the Nova S10 Wi-Fi, with everything it aggregates, gains enormous importance in this context ”, says Rodrigo Fioco, director South America GM Product Marketing.

The technology allows remote updates (Over the Air) to be made to the vehicle's electronic systems. More than that, the Chevrolet pick-up is now able to identify the need for oil change, for example, and send an alert to the owner's WhatsApp, which can also start cooling the cab remotely as a way to experiment one of the many functions of the new myChevrolet application. All of this is part of level four connectivity, the most advanced available on the market.
The Nova S10 also incorporates the most modern generation of multimedia MyLink. The novelty is the wireless projection for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is the first application of this feature in a model of the brand in the country.

Imposing and personalized look
As if the evolutionary leap provided by advanced connectivity were not enough, the New S10 reinforces itself in other important pillars: safety, performance and design.
Let's start with the visual, which is clearly more imposing. The new front is in the style of Chevrolet's most current global utility line. Now there is a clear differentiation between the high-end version High Country and the other versions, in an unprecedented action in the line to reinforce the aspect of exclusivity.
In the New S10 High Country, the grille is all dark and bears the Chevrolet name in high relief over a central bar. The traditional golden tie, emblem of the brand, for the first time appears displaced from the center, located now lower, on the left, on a honeycomb pattern. This whole set harmonizes with the LED headlights and the bumper.

Speaking of bumpers, the part has also been updated. It has a central application in a different color and a frame at the bottom, which was designed to improve the vehicle's ability to overcome obstacles, resulting in an angle of attack that went from 27 to 29 degrees.
Another relevant element for off-road pick-ups that has been improved is the set of auxiliary headlights. The lights are now in a higher position, providing greater protection for the lamps and better lighting power in certain situations, such as in stretches of overgrown bush.
On the side, the S10 High Country draws attention with the new 18-inch sports wheels. It combines the machined edges with the center and the shiny black spokes.

Another striking side aspect is the surrounding santoantonio, which brings more volume to the bucket (1,329 liters), the largest in the category.
In this part of the vehicle, the main novelty is the rear cover damper, which makes the handling operation much smoother. The item is offered as an accessory and serves the other versions (LS, Advantage, LT and LTZ).

These models follow aesthetic developments, but with differences in finish, such as the grille with chrome elements and the Chevrolet logo in the center, in addition to specific wheels.
At the rear, the pick-up equipped with a reverse camera now projects high-definition images and has a hitch function. It has specific guidelines and zoom lines for easy operation.
Another interesting feature of this system is that the user is able to temporarily activate the rear camera while traveling to check the situation of the trailer.
It is important to note that the S10 has electronic trailer oscillation control. This system is able to identify some dynamic instability of the trailer and selectively brake the wheels of the pick-up.

Autonomous braking
In the S10, technology is present in all pillars, which is why it has been considered the pick-up with the best balance between robustness, handling and comfort - both on asphalt and off-road.
The Nova S10 gains structural reinforcements in the body, offering greater protection to the occupants. The vehicle was up to 20% more resistant in case of frontal impact, for example.
Speaking of safety, the pick-up was already very well equipped. It offered frontal collision alert, involuntary lane departure alert and advanced electronic stability and traction control.
This package is even more complete on the 2021 line with the availability of the autonomous emergency braking system, which brakes the vehicle automatically when it identifies a risk situation involving the vehicle ahead or a pedestrian crossing the front.
This feature works from 8 km / h to 80 km / h and can mitigate or even prevent an accident. It kicks in when it realizes that the driver is distracted or that the vehicle just ahead has made an abrupt maneuver.
The S10 also uses the camera of this system, located at the top of the windshield, to assist the driver in emergency braking.
Imagine the scene: the driver is on the road, realizes a dangerous situation, and brakes. But if the system understands that the pressure applied to the pedal will not be sufficient, the car will automatically increase the braking force.
Also in the occupant protection section, the Nova S10 is now equipped as standard with 6 airbags in all configurations. Until then, this was an item exclusive to the High Country version.
The pick-up also comes with an Isofix and Toptether system for fixing a child seat in the double cabin versions.

New turbo with engine software update
It is important to note that 4x4 pick-ups in general have a more robust architecture than passenger vehicles. So they have a longer life cycle. But because they are a working tool and the need to adapt quickly to market demands, pick-ups usually undergo a greater number of updates.
The S10 is champion in this regard. In terms of motorization alone, there were almost a dozen, among new engines and new technologies, since the first generation was launched in 1995.
Since then, the power of its engines has doubled, the time to reach 100 km / h has dropped by one third and consumption has improved by up to 65%. Not to mention the environmental gain with the reduction of almost 90% in the emission of the main gases (CO2 and NOx).

Another update is being promoted, this time on the 2.8 turbo engine, the favorite of consumers.
The novelty that arrives with the 2021 line is the adoption of a new turbine, the same that equips the North American Chevrolet Colorado pickup. The advantage of the component is that it has an optimized structure that makes accelerations more progressive. In practice, the driver will feel a pick-up much smarter and more fun to drive.
For the integration of the new turbine, engineering worked on a new calibration for the engine with 200 horsepower and 500 Nm of force.
“We opted to develop different calibrations, one specific for the more sophisticated versions of the pick-up and another for the work-oriented versions. After all, these vehicles serve customers with very different expectations ”, explains Ricardo Fanucchi, general manager of GM South America

Product Engineering.
The new calibration adds better performance to the more sophisticated versions, increasing the sensation of agility in starts and overtaking, while improving energy efficiency for the work-oriented versions.
With that, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h was 0.2 seconds faster, going to 10.1 seconds in the model equipped with automatic transmission (AT6).
Fuel savings ranged from 3% to 10%, depending on the configuration and condition. This means that the cost per kilometer run on diesel, which was already good, was even better on the entry models (MT6). Very close to a 1.0 Flex compact. For a pickup the size of the S10 it is a really impressive feat.

Not to mention that the vehicle differs in terms of low maintenance costs and the extensive technical assistance network.
As you can see, the Nova S10 arrives with relevant news for the consumer and follows on an extremely solid basis, formed by the Chevrolet brand tradition in the pick-up segment.
The Nova S10 is available in three body options (double cab, single cab and cab chassis), five trim levels (LS, Advantage, LT, LTZ and High Country), two engine options (2.5 Flex and 2.8 Turbo Diesel) , as well as two transmission options (MT6 and AT6) and traction (4x2 and 4x4). In addition to seven external paint options: Summit White, Graphite Gray, Switchblade Silver, Black Gold Black, Edible Berries Red and the unprecedented Topaz Gray and Eclipse Blue.
