CLUTCH-BY-WIRE: THE REVOLUTIONARY BRAND TRANSMISSION TECHNOLOGY

By-wire accelerators were introduced to the market years ago and today almost all current vehicles actively equip this type of technology. But now KIA has taken it a step further with the new iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) system, which proposes to apply this technology to the clutch.
Although many predict a certain death of the manual transmission, apparently there are still manufacturers that continue to bet on this type of transmission and KIA has taken an important step in enabling the extension of the permanence of this type of transmission, by introducing the new by-wire clutch technology .

It is not a robotic gearbox like the ones that have been around for some time, on the contrary, it is a system that continues depending on the clutch pedal and the shift lever, and that is no longer physically connected to the pedal, but that it works electronically, sending the signal through the pedal to engage or disengage the clutch.
Thanks to the design of this new technology, the clutch will transmit the gradual feel of a system to use, since it will simulate the friction point of a conventional clutch.

The new iMT clutch of the Korean brand will debut in the next KIA Rio and KIA Ceed, and initially will only equip the semi-hybrid versions of both models. The new KIA and Hyundai equipped with the innovative by-wire clutch will be available over the next few months.
