MARY BARRA BELIEVES THAT THE TRANSITION TO ELECTRIC IN THE UNITED STATES WILL TAKE MORE THAN 20 YEARS

For anyone who is involved in the auto industry it is a secret that there is currently a transition process in all vehicle brands (or almost all). Many manufacturers are betting on creating new electric models and in fact there is talk of a relatively rapid transition from internal combustion engines to electrification, although GM does not think so.
In fact, for General Motors the reality is that the future of the industry is not yet clear enough, despite the fact that electric models have gained strength in recent years, as well as other proposals such as hydrogen cell vehicles and even some solar proposals, that can be strengthened in the coming years.
This was expressed by Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, who recently gave interesting statements about the so-called electrical transition in the United States, in which she assured that this will not be a process as fast as they want us to believe and that it may even take several decades.
specifically, Barra bases his belief on the fact that there are currently more than 250 million vehicles in the United States and for the government it will not be simple to get all inhabitants and drivers to choose an electric alternative to move, so that “ the transition will happen over time, in a period a little longer than the 20 years predicted, but it will happen ”.
These statements are extremely important and harsh at a time when the auto industry is trying to resort to these electrification proposals, but the numbers support Barra, as it is currently a very sharp minority that opts for these models.
In 2019, the Chevrolet Bolt was the fourth best-selling electric model in the United States, with 16,418 units emplacadas, well behind the Tesla Model 3, which won the medal of first place with its 180,000 units sold. It is for this reason that the company will try to enter the electric market strongly in the medium term with new electrical and plug-in hybrid proposals in brands like Cadillac and of course, with the announced return of Hummer as an electric vehicle.
Anyway, we will see if Mrs. Barra is right, and there is still a long way to go until the streets of the world run on only electric cars.
