MODEL T6.1 2020: EVOLVING IN TECHNOLOGY AND SECURITY

Since the debut of the T1 versions to the T6 update, 70 years have passed, seven decades in which twelve million units were sold worldwide. To continue increasing this number, the Volkswagen T6.1 arrives, the update of the sixth generation of the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has gone a step further to improve its flagship vehicle, and has done so in design, technology, security, digitization and connectivity.
In terms of exterior design, the Volkswagen T6 2020 adopts a new front, with a larger grille and two chrome blades, and with headlights in which the model identification has been introduced. They are standard halogens and change from H4 to H7. Those incorporating LED technology are standard on the highest finishes of the Multivan and California, but are optional for the rest of the line. Added to the catalog are the new wheels and the new colors for the body.

T6.1 incorporates a new control panel, with a panel that can be different - there are three: more basic for the Transporter; an intermediary for the Caravelle, with chrome details and higher quality materials; and the superior for Multivan and California. Equip new materials and details such as the aluminum finish, more typical of a passenger car. Also new is the digital instrument panel, optional across the range, except for the Multivan Outdoor Panamericana top finish, and the Connect app system that is standard across the range, including the van. The infotainment system is also renewed with the Volkswagen MIB 2 systems with Composition Color and MIB 3, depending on the version, with wireless connection with App Connect, sensors for approaching the screen, gesture control, inductive charge for smartphones and integrated SIM for services online.

This technological advance is clearly seen in the emergency call, in the rear camera, both with the double door and with the rear cover - for the first time in the T6 line -, in the interior lighting in LED and in the electrical renovation of the vehicle. But, if something stands out is the electromechanical power steering included in the entire line, also in the van. This new feature allows the addition of nine new driving assistants, such as the Lane Assist system, the Assisted Parking System (Park Assist) and the different driving profiles with the Driver Profile. There are others, such as the Trailer Assist assistant and the standard ones: the side wind assistant, reverse steering assistant and tire pressure monitoring - the last three of which are standard across the board. - so there are up to 20 systems. In addition, according to Volkswagen, the new power steering also improves touch and manages to be more precise.

The Volkswagen T6.1 line maintains the structure of 4 models: Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California. The Transporter is available with two versions, the N1 with the Van and Mixto Plus, and the M1 with the Kombi and Mixto, both with a short wheelbase of 3,000 mm or a long wheelbase of 3,400 mm. In the Caravelle there are two versions, Origin and Premium, in addition to the two wheelbase options. In the case of Multivan, we have the Origin, Outdoor and Premium versions, and in the case of California, Beach and Ocean.
Depending on the model, the engine offer is composed by the 2.0 TDI of 110, 150 and 198 hp, manual or automatic DSG transmission, in addition to front-wheel drive or 4Motion. It is worth remembering that Volkswagen together with ABT Sportsline created ABT e-Transporter 6.1, the 100% electric commercial vehicle.
