DAKAR 2020
Ross Branch debuts as winner and Sam Sunderland becomes leader
The botsuano Ross Branch has done with his first stage victory in the Dakar and the first in the history of his country. The driver of the Bas Dakar KTM Racing Team already shined in the last edition at the end as the best rookie, and in his second participation it has taken only two stages to release his locker of victories in the test by winning the special 367 kilometers of the stage starting in Al Wajh and ending in Neom, the first part of the super marathon stage, which means that pilots can only make repairs for ten minutes without being penalized with time.
3 hours, 39 minutes and 10 seconds are those that Branch has invested to outdo the British Sam Sunderland in 1:24, who is joining the lead of the event. At 2:21 of Branch Pablo Quintanilla has finished, followed by brothers Kevin Benavides and Luciano Benavides, who have completed the top 5 of the stage less than four minutes from the best time.
Sixth Joan Barreda finished almost five minutes from the winner and with a second advantage over his teammate Nacho Cornejo, with the Austrian Matthias Walkner a minute behind. The representation of Yamaha in the top ten has been in charge of the French Xavier De Soultrait, with Andrew Short tenth.
Ricky Brabec, who started second, has been eleventh losing 8:45; while yesterday's winner, Toby Price, has paid the duck to open the track and left 12:13, finishing 15th on the stage. Lorenzo Santolino, second Spaniard of the day at the end of 17th at 18:25 of Branch, with Joan Pedrero closing the top ten after leaving 19:49 has concluded very close to the Australian.
