ZANARDI: "I AM MORE GULL WITHOUT MY PROSTHESES"
BMW M Motorsport, the motorsport division of the BMW M brand, and Italian rider Alessandro Zanardi are finalizing preparations to take part in the current season of the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft), the German Touring Car Championship. Last weekend, he completed the development of a version of the BMW M4 DTM, modified according to his special needs, in Dingolfing, Germany.Zanardi will participate in the DTM stage of Misano, Italy, to be held later this month. Since 2003, he has accumulated a successful trajectory aboard racing cars designed by BMW.
However, the Misano stage marks a new debut for the Italian rider: for the first time he will run without the prosthetic legs. BMW M Motorsport engineers have developed a system for the BMW M4 DTM, allowing the car to be braked by hand.
"Without the prostheses, I have nothing interfering with the movement and I also have less weight to move. So yes, I am much more agile. The plan is to get to the car with my wheelchair and jump into the cockpit, "Zanardi explains.Autonews
