Special World Cup: meet the best selling cars in Russia

Lada is the local market leader, which favors sedansOn the eve of the opening of the World Cup, the Russian market announced another month of great results in new vehicle sales. In May, the local market shipped 147,525 units, or about 18% more than in 2017. This was the 13th consecutive month of double-digit gains. In the top 10, most are sedans, with three SUVs and a minivan.

Lada Granta
With almost 20% market share, Lada - remember it? - was the sales leader with almost 29 thousand units. The brand was the only one to register four models among the favorites, winning space with the Granta and Vesta sedans, the Largus minivan (a local version of the Renault Logan MCV) and the Xray SUV. Among the automakers, Ford (3,701) was the only one in the top 10 to lose space in the period (-5.6%).

Kia Rio
Speaking of models, however, whoever hits a jackpot there are the South Koreans. Leader for the fourth consecutive month and for the 16th time in the last 22 months, Kia Rio (8,857) won by narrow margin Lada Granta (8,486). Speaking in Korean, it is sold only in the sedan version there. Behind Lada Vesta (7,673), another representative from South Korea: Hyundai Solaris (6,467).

Lada Vesta
Up from almost 40% over 2017, Hyundai Crete (5,759) left the VW Polo behind (5,257) and was featured in the top 5. Curiously, the Polo sold in Russia is still the fifth generation, and just like the Kia Rio. Present in the top 10, the Renault Duster was preferred by 3,521 consumers. Imported best selling in Brazil, the Kia Sportage (3,018) was the ninth. The Renault Kaptur - also with "K" - was very close to the front peloton, with 2,829 units, much higher than the sales recorded here (where it is called Captur). Highlight also for the Hyundai Tucson (1,972), which approached the top 20 thanks to an advance of almost 200%.
