Rahal commands fourth free practice for Indy 500
The fourth day of free practice for the 102nd edition of the Indianapolis 500 was not one of great excitement. It was a great test, in fact, that featured Graham Rahal leading the session for about five of the six-hour freestyle track. After Penske's dominance in the first two practice sessions, the last two days were from teams driven by Honda engine - the RLL, in the case. The time was 39s814.Tony Kanaan, meanwhile, took second place for nearly four hours. The winner of the 2013 edition of the Indy 500 showed that Foyt has the strength to compete and secured a turnover in 39s841. With third place, Marco Andretti in the mark of 39s896.Only three yellow flags disturbed the progress of the day. One for debris on the track, one for the oval and another for the final 30 minutes, due to JR Hildebrand's touch on the wall between turns three and four. Nothing serious, with the car suffering little damage and Hildebrand released from the lane's medical center in less than ten minutes.Following the classification, Ed Carpenter came back very well and was fourth placed, already in the 40s. Sage Karam was another who appear strong again, with fifth place. Best Penske, Josef Newgarden was sixth, with substitute Pietro Fittipaldi, Zachary Claman of Melo, in seventh. Helio Castroneves, Spencer Pigot and Gabby Chaves finished the top-10.Three other Indy champions and favorites for the race appeared next, with Smin Pagenaud in 11th, Scott Dixon in 12th and Will Power in 13th. Sèbastian Bourdais and Alexander Rossi were in the 15th and 22th potions.Matheus Leist also had a positive day and managed to put Foyt in 14th place. In addition to Bourdais, it was better than the winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and pole position James Hinchcliffe, respectively 26th and 31st. Takuma Sato, last year's winner, was 33rd, while Danica Patrick, who spent most of the day in last place, was in the 30th place. The last two placed and needing to improve to not be filed in the test still next Saturday, during the Bump Day, were Conor Daly and Zach Veach.
