COLT RETURNS IN 2020
The Japanese manufacturer considers the development of a new model that can compete within the segment B, that can bring back to the market a historical denomination. According to recent statements by Guillaume Cartier, Sales and Marketing VP of Mitsubishi Motors for Europe, on the occasion of the Geneva Motor Show 2018, this new model may be called the Mitsubishi Colt.In fact, a few months ago we knew that the next generation of Space Star will use the platform of the next Renault Clio, but now the Japanese brand considers bringing back this historic denomination when it comes time to launch its new generation.According to Cartier, this new model will take advantage of the synergy between the group's brands, so it will have the platform used by the Nissan Micra, as well as other technologies that could be equipped in the upcoming Renault Clio, such as the three-cylinder turbo engine used by model of the French brand. In any case, this will help keep the development costs low, essential to take it successfully to the market, since the Japanese brand believes that it must sell at least 100,000 units per year worldwide to be able to make the model viable. The current generation of the Mitsubishi Space Star has been harshly criticized since the launch, because the model has been overtaken in many respects by its rivals. The current Space Star, which in some markets is called Mirage, was introduced in the market in 2012, just as a replacement for the Mitsubishi Colt (pictured).Cartier also confirmed at the Geneva Motor Show that for now the Japanese brand does not intend to launch new models until at least 2020, when the new generation of the Mitsubishi Colt will be able to reach the Market.
