BMW M8 GTE: MODEL OF RUNNING STRATEGIES BEFORE THE PRODUCTION

We are accustomed that race cars, with the exception of the LMP1 prototypes of the Le Mans 24 Hours and Formula 1 single-seaters, are based on production cars. However, the Munich brand decided to present before the BMW M8 GTE, the competition version, that production model. His debut took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017 and is one of the models that advances the future head car of the M family.
It is enough to replace the BMW M6 GTLM and the previous BMW Z4 GTE. The development of the M8 GTE began before the spectacular BMW 8 Series Concept was introduced, which was presented at the last Concours d'Elegance Villa d'Este, and computer studies played a key role in its development, simulating how the control will work and the shape of the vehicle.



With the use of a complete body in carbon fiber, the weight of the M8 GTE is 1,225 kilos, 25 below that allowed the regulation of the championship. Its premiere is scheduled for next January, when the 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida will be played as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the United States, as well as being present at the FIA ​​World Championship of Resistance (WEC) in Europe and all around the world. His debut at La Sarthe in the 24 Hours of Le Mans will mark the return of BMW to the legendary circuit since the BMW M3 GT2 last attended in 2011.In terms of technical details, the BMW M8 GTE features a powerful 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine based on the production block, developing a power output of 500 hp, coupled with a six-speed sequential transmission. The interesting thing is that it is an advance of what will be the new BMW M8, removing the complete aerodynamic kit of carbon fiber, adding a comfortable interior and removing all the decoration of racing, of course.
